2. Abigail Williams
Antagonist (causes the problems); young lady who “gets around.” She is deceitful (liar), and she had an affair with John Proctor.

3. John Proctor
Middle-aged, hard working man. Married to Elizabeth Proctor; One of the few who actually cares about the right reasons. Had an affair with Abigail Williams.

4.   Elizabeth Proctor
Wife of John Proctor; she fired Abigail Williams from being her servant because she found out about her and John; the target of Abigail’s bad behavior

5. Reverend Parris
Minister of Salem; Lead a “treacherous path” to get where he is; Has enemies in Salem (Mr. Putnam); young daughter is “sick” at the beginning of the play

6. Betty Parris
Daughter of Reverend Parris; appears to be very “sick” at the beginning of the play

7. Mr. Putnam
Also an antagonist; comes from a rich family, and he is not afraid to “step on” other people for his own personal gain. Trying to get Rev. Parris out of town

8. Mrs. Putnam
Wife of Mr. Putnam; she claims to have lost seven babies due to some type of witchcraft

9. Reverend John Hale
Famous minister known for finding and eliminating witchcraft/witches; called to Salem to help investigate the strange occurrences

10. Giles Corey
Elderly gentleman who is very inquisitive (curious/nosey); Ends up being blamed for a majority of the events and is “pressed” to death

11. Rebecca Nurse
Elderly woman who has twenty-six grandchildren. She is well respected in town for her wisdom and knowledge about raising and dealing with children

12. Mary Warren
John and Elizabeth Proctor’s maid; teenage girl who wants to do the right thing…but is persuaded by Abigail’s deceitful ways
