1 Room 111 News Friday October 14, 2016 Important dates:
Next week’s Shine Student is Max  Week of 10/17 Hail Mary test Thursday 10/20: Spelling Test Friday 10/21: Trunk-or-Treat and SCAAP for those who receive certificates Important Information: There WILL BE a spelling test next week! List #2 Halloween info: Children may wear their Halloween costumes to school on Friday October 28. We will have a costume parade in the gym around 8:15 in the morning. All parents are welcome to attend the parade. Our class Halloween party will be after lunch. Only pre-scheduled and approved volunteers may attend the class party. Please keep in mind that children will have to wear their Halloween costumes all day at school! They will have to be able to use the restroom on their own and make it through recess while wearing their costume. Plan accordingly!  From the Panther Pen Weekly Update: Our kindergarten through 6th grade students, wear costumes. With all the “scary clown” reports in the news, we have decided there will be NO clown or gory costumes this year. We introduced the concept of main idea and details to the children this week. We did the big Johnny Appleseed project in today’s envelope together as a class as a guided first practice of this new and sometimes confusing concept! Students had help with gathering ideas and spelling  We are going to start a Literature Unit on the wonderful author Jane Yolen next week. One of her most popular stories is Baby Bear’s Books. This story focuses on the joy of reading, something we are working hard to foster this year! Please take a picture of your child reading in his or her favorite spot (in bed, comfy chair, with a blankie—anything goes!) and/or reading his or her favorite book at home. Please the picture of your child to me for a special class project. I will need the pictures by Wednesday, October 19th. If you are unable to do this project, me and I will take a picture here. Make sure to help your child practice the Hail Mary prayer. We will do the oral prayer test next week. FYI: First graders should be able to read the sentences on the back of Saxon HW on their own.
