2.) Football is a popular sport. Many games are held in different places every year. World Cup is a game that all the good players want to play most. It is held every four years. Only the best team can win the last game. The 2002 World Cup was in Korea and Japan. Hundreds of thousands of people went to the games or watched them on TV day and night. They all got excited and hoped their favourite team would became the world’s best one. Football is team sport. There are eleven players in each team of a game. The earliest games of football were not like that we know today. Games were played between two towns. Each team of the town had more than five hundred players, and each team tried to carry the ball to the other team’s town. Today some towns in England still play games like this.

He is forecasting the weather. How do they know what the weather will be like? They use the man-made satellites to help them.

The satellites takes pictures of the atmosphere(大气), because this is where the weather forms. They send these pictures to the weather station. So the scientists there can see the weather of any part of the world and tell how the weather will change. Today, nearly five hundred weather stations in sixty countries can receive satellite pictures. When they receive the new pictures, they compare them with the earlier ones. Perhaps they may find that the clouds have changed during the past few hours. This may mean that the weather on the ground may soon change, too. In their next weather forecast, they can tell people about it. So the weather satellites are of great help to the scientists at the station. In the past they could only forecast the weather for about 24 or 48 hours. Now they can make good forecasts for 3 or 5 days. Soon, perhaps, they may be able to forecast for a week or ahead.
