5 A few things you should know about the School…
It is the multi-disciplinary home to over 750 Undergraduate Students and over 150 Postgraduate Students. We offer you great opportunities to visit European and World wide destinations. We have a dedicated Postgraduate Common Room equipped with Macs and storage. All staff have office hours, make use of them. All MA students are allocated an Academic Adviser. PG students in the Faculty of Humanities are eligible to apply for free language classes delivered by SECL and CEWL ( Explain that the School is made up of HPA, Drama and Theatre and Film. Talk about the benefits of studying in a multidisciplinary school and the cross over between the 3 subjects. Talk about the fact that Arts is one of the largest schools on campus and how we encourage interaction between UG and PG students through research events, talks etc. Trips e.g. Amsterdam Spring 2013 Academic Advisers: provide developmental and holistic academic advice and guidance provide proactive and structured support at key stages in each year to establish an on-going relationship provide advice on module choices and registration, if required review overall academic progress and reflect on development of skills and attributes advise on opportunities for development within and outside the curriculum refer the student, as appropriate, to other specialist sources of academic advice and personal support write references for on request. 7 PGT: Moodle Each Module has a dedicated Moodle page containing important information regarding teaching, learning and assessment Each Module has a Moodle Page containing: Assessment Information Reading Lists Marking Criteria Communication from the course convenor Please make sure you check the moodle page regularly

8 PGT: Submitting Your Work
Most written work can be submitted directly through the Turnitin link available on the module Moodle page Please complete the essay cover sheet correctly The deadline is always MIDDAY Work submitted after the deadline will be awarded zero [unless you have been granted an extension] Extensions Don’t forget to keep a record of your Turnitin receipt This is only relevant to PGT students Dissertations should be submitted electronically and in hard copy Please make sure you complete the electronic cover sheet Emphasis that it is important students keep a record of the Turnitin receipts in case there are any problems

9 PGT: How Work is Assessed
Numerical Scale For Programmes Classified Under P/M/D Distinction Merit Pass Fail This is a University wide marking scale for PGT (and UG programmes) Convenors will provide further information re marking criteria

10 PGR: Progression and Monitoring
You must prepare adequately for formal progress reviews and supervisory meetings. You must agree a schedule of meetings with your supervisor and keep a record of the meetings using the facilities on the Student Data System Meetings with your supervisor must take place once a month if you studying on a full-time basis and once every other month if you are studying on a part-time basis At the end of the academic year the School will host a research presentation event which you should attend

11 PGR: Teaching at Undergraduate level
Training and support. Annex Q (Research Student Teachers and Demonstrators) of the Code of Practice for Research Programmes ofStudyhttp:// sets out the level of support that schools are expected to provide to their GTA. The Associate Fellowship Scheme is intended for people who undertake teaching and/or learning support as part of their work for the university. GTA Coordinator

12 PGR: Research Centres The School of Arts' cross disciplinary research centres and groups provide a focus for staff and postgraduate student research activity. Each Centre hosts a programme of research events including international exchanges, conferences, seminars and symposia. Kent Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (KIASH) co-ordinates research activity in all fields of the humanities. Faculty PhD Top Up Support Fund Research Centres and Groups School of Arts Student Project Fund Explain how students can apply to these funds

16 PGT/PGR: The School of Arts Student Association The School of Arts Association will be holding a number of events over the year, including a programme of extracurricular lectures and multimedia projects! Keep an eye on their Twitter and Facebook at facebook.com/schoolofartsassociation.kentuni for more info! The association aims to bring together students who different disciplines They will be looking for PG students to give lectures and talks to UG students if you are interested please Explain how this links to the Kent Arts Network (KAN) and mention briefly explain the purpose of the KAN

17 PGT/PGR: Your Feedback Counts
The School of Arts is looking to recruit MA and PGR Course Reps across the disciplines. Course Reps represent the views of their peers at School and Faculty level If you would like the opportunity to become a Course Rep please visit the Kent Union website for more information or Angela Whiffen We need course reps from each subject (MA Curating will come under HPA and Arts Criticism will be covered across the three subjects) Reps attend SSLC meetings and GSC meetings. It is not a big time commitment but it is a really important role. Last year the course reps organised a trip to Venice
