1 Local to Global Perspective Performance of Culture Theme
This theme explores the links between performance and culture through diverse perspectives and forms of expression.  Culture and performance are learned and are reflexive, shaping and shaped by each other.  Rituals, both public and private, enact culture and may take the form of performance.  Public performances and performing arts enact culture in myriad forms, serving as cultural markers.  

2 Themes in General Education are Designed to:
assist students in making systematic and deliberate connections between the ways various disciplinary perspectives address the same topic. provide a framework for faculty in different departments to collaborate on research projects and share innovative teaching strategies. encourage students to explore areas of specific interest at a deeper level .

3 COM 3535 – Intercultural Communication 3 hours

4 DAN 2020 – World Dance 3 hours This course will explore dance as a vital contribution to cultural understanding from various regions and cultures around the world including the Americas, Africa, Europe, Asia and Oceania.

5 FL hours Choose from CHN, FRE, GER, JPN, RSN, or SNH 1050-second semester of intermediate language study . You must place into 1050 or have taken the necessary prerequisites.

6 MUS 2018 – Introduction to World Music 3 hours Fine Arts Designation
A survey of musics representing international cultures. Emphasis is placed on the role of music in various life experiences. Lecture three hours.

7 THR 2020 – World Culture and Performance Studies 3 hours
This course applies insights from performance art, theatre, dance and other art forms. Its interdisciplinary approach will allow students to have the opportunities to study the unique role of “performance” in various aspects of our society as well as the world today. The class will explore the concept of performance, and special attention will be paid to issues of multiculturalism and the cultural, political, historical, social, economic and technological contexts of performance studies.
