5 21st Century Storms vs. 20th Century Infrastructure
Old Stormwater Infrastructure Many older areas of Village built 1950s – 1980s Prior to modern stormwater planning and design standards Small storm sewers and little stormwater storage No safe overland flow routes Recent Intense Storm Events August 28, 2017: 3.0 inches in 2 hours July 12, 2017: 7.0 inches in 12 hours July 24, 2011: 3.7 inches in 6 hours Result: Not enough stormwater conveyance and storage during large storm events Slide 5 of 21

6 Recent Rainfall Events – July 2017
Rainfall: 7.0 inches of rain in 12 hours 130-Year storm event (0.8% chance of occurring every year)* Widespread Local Drainage System Flooding and Des Plaines River Flooding Flooded commercial and residential structures Flooded roadways Flooded yards Stormwater inflow into the sanitary sewer system Surcharge of the sanitary sewer system July 2017 Post Storm Village Flood Survey > 400 flooding reports 97 flood questionnaires completed Similar Severe Flooding throughout Lake County Slide 6 of 21 *as determined by Lake County Stormwater Management Commission
