1 A guide to our Rights Respecting School by the pupils of LMPS
Please read on to find out what being a Rights Respecting School means to us. A guide to our Rights Respecting School by the pupils of LMPS

2 We are trying to get our Level 1 award.
The Unicef UK Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) supports schools across the UK to make sure schools tell children all about their human rights. The UN made an agreement called the Convention on the Right of the Child (UNCRC) and it includes all of our rights. At LMPS we learn about what our rights are and how to respect the rights of others. We think this makes us kinder and we can play and learn nicely together, which helps us learn even better. Some children in the world don’t get to have their rights and we don’t think this is fair, so we try to raise money to help them or write to our local MP to convince the government to help. We think we should look after the world we live in and our brilliant eco-group help us to think more about looking after our planet. We are trying to get our Level 1 award.

3 What some of our children say:
Rights Respecting is about treating others how you want to be treated yourself. You have to commit to your rights. Every child across the world has rights. We have the responsibilities; to be kind to others, to make sure others can learn and to look after others and their property. We have to respect others because we want to be happy and have a happy life. (Charlotte, Year 4) We think it’s good to be a Rights Respecting School because our rights are important. These are some of our rights: to be fully educated, to have clean water and healthy food, to have fun and to be treated kindly. We believe if we understand our rights, our school will be a kind, happy place. (William, Year 4) What some of our children say:

4 Gemma, in Year 2 has illustrated one of the articles of the convention.

5 What can you expect to see in our Rights Respecting school?
Everyone respecting each other, including grown ups and children. Everyone trying their best. Everyone is caring and we try to keep each other safe. We care about other children in other parts of the world. We care about our world and try to think of ways to make it better, like recycling. What can you expect to see in our Rights Respecting school?

6 A poem by Tayo in Year 5 Inspired by Martin Luther King as part of Black History Month
I have a dream….. I have a dream that everyone has all the supplies that they need like a house, food, fresh water, money and an education. I have a dream that everyone lives peacefully and all the wars in the world are over. I have a dream that all the refugees are treated fairly by the government. I have a dream that every child has the right to be taken seriously. I have a dream that every child has the right to develop their abilities and talent. I have a dream that anyone who is sick will have a hospital to be treated in an taken care of. I have a dream that some day, some time, the world will be a better place.
