3. FAITH
Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen.
Faith is the actual belief in God and the Trinity
Faith is based on the Word of God and the finished work of Christ on the cross
Faith without works is dead [James 2:17] 3

5. PRAYER
Prayer is simply the means THROUGH which we communicate with God.
The dictionary describes prayer as 1. address to God: a spoken or unspoken address to God, a deity, or a saint. It may express praise, thanksgiving, confession, or a request for something such as help or somebody's well- being.
2. addressing of God: the act or practice of making spoken or unspoken addresses to God, a deity, or a saint kneeling in prayer 5

6. JESUS ON PRAYER
Prayer was instituted by God, and Jesus emphasized on the necessity of prayer when He said man ought always to pray and not to faint.
Jesus taught on prayer in Matthew 6:9-13.
Our emphases are on verses 9-10;
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Our Father: Relationship, Knowledge.
Hallowed be Thy name: Praise, Worship, Fear, Fellowship.
Thy will: Knowledge and Want for His will. 6

7. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAITH AND PRAYER
Since faith and prayer have already been discussed we now will see how Prayer and Faith go hand in hand:
James 1:6-8; The word Wisdom can be substituted for anything we ask, without doubt or in faith.
All who pray or ask from God in doubt or without faith the Bible likens to a wave driven about by the wind and tossed, a double-minded and unstable person.
God wants every prayer, request, petition, to be made in faith. 7

8. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAITH AND PRAYER CONT.
Lets note that Faith, is tied to God’s ability to do what HE says HE would do.
Prayer on the other hand is always associated with needs such as spiritual, physical, social, etc and our reaching out to our Sovereign God for solutions and fellowship.
When as God’s children, we offer prayers in Jesus name, it simply shows we have faith in the Lordship and authority of JESUS over every of our situation. 8

9. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAITH AND PRAYER CONT.
Faith and prayer are two integral aspects of Christianity. We can not be said to be God’s children if we don’t have faith and are not people of prayers.
Our state of mind when we approach God in prayer is very important.
Do we believe HIM totally or we doubt sometimes? 9

10. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAITH AND PRAYER CONT.
Lets consider the relationship between a father and a son in terms of provision for a moment…
A son trusts that his father will always provide his needs for him.
This trust builds up over time resulting to him (son) having experiential knowledge and trust in the father’s ability to meet his needs.
So does faith and prayer over time help build our trust in God’s sovereignty, Lordship and ability to provide, etc. 10

11. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAITH AND PRAYER CONT.
Function together – come to God
Prayer /believe HE is a rewarder (faith)
Complement each other – ask, believing should originate from same source
My faith may not work for your prayer requests
Commanded by same person – God (JESUS)
Pray/ask: have faith – directed to same person – God/Jesus
We must live it always – the just shall live by faith/pray without ceasing. 11

12. CONCLUSION
1 John 5:14-15
14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. 12
