Overcoming With Christ

I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace
I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33

I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace.
In the world you will have tribulation.  But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33

I have told you these things,
Truth

What is truth?

Christ is the truth …“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. (John 14:6) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1) Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth (John 17:17)

The Bible and Holy Spirit teach Christ
All Scripture is breathed out by God… (2 Timothy 3:16) But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you (John 14:26) When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth… (John 16:13)

Promises by His Word Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. (John 15:3) These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. (John 15:11)

Promises by His Word I have said all these things to you to keep you from falling away (John 16:1) But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told them to you… (John 16:4a)

Relationship through His Word
You are my friends if you do what I command you (John 15:14) Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me… (John 14:21a)

I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace
I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33

that in me you may have peace
Tranquility

What is Peace?

Hannah and Peace She was deeply distressed and prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly…and said, “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant … and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life…”

Hannah and Peace As she continued praying before the Lord, Eli observed her mouth. Hannah was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, and her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli took her to be a drunken woman…

Hannah and Peace But Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman troubled in spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink… for all along I have been speaking out of my great anxiety and vexation.”

Hannah and Peace Then Eli answered, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition that you have made to him.”  And she said, “Let your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.

Hannah and Peace … and the Lord remembered her.  And in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Samuel, for she said, “I have asked for him from the Lord.” (1 Samuel 1:10-13,15-20)

Come to Christ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23)  …if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

Remain in Christ Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself…Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing  (John 15:4-5)

I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace

When you think about tribulations or trial what enters your mind?

Are trials always bad?

Paul and his Thorn So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me.

Paul and his Thorn But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong (2 Corinthians 15:7-10)

Blessings from Trials Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Blessings from Trials If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.  For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord…

Blessings from Trials …Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him (James 1:2-7, 12)
