3 First Impressions- Brainstorming
Get into groups of 4. List on a piece of paper at least five mistakes people make that give a bad first impression. (3 min) Turn your paper over and write at least five ways people make a good first impression. (2 min)

4 Before you even open your mouth,
Your Personal Image It takes 7 seconds to make a first impression… …although we start making decisions about people within the first 3 seconds of meeting. Before you even open your mouth, you’ve been sized up. What does your image say about you?

Review the images on the next few slides. What is your initial feeling/thought with each image?

15 Personal Image Basics Grooming- paying attention to grooming demonstrates respect for yourself and others Dress with purpose- clothes send a message about how you want others to see you Body language Posture –equates to our attitude, our confidence level, and our ability to go after what we want (standing tall with shoulders back) Eye contact –one of the most potent indicators of our mood and intentions (solid with a "smiling" face) Gestures with hands and arms –may be unconsciously communicating in ways you don't realize (purposeful and deliberate) Good hand shake- your handshake is to some extent a genuine reflection of your actual personality
