2 Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) Update Winter 2017
SSSP-Equity Advisory Committee March 21, 2017

3 Core Services Comprehensive ed plans: 97% completion for all new first-time students in fall. Worked with Mallory Newell and Communications to survey students and receive feedback for fall comprehensive ed plan campaign. Ongoing collaboration with ETS to draw core service completion data through Apex.

4 Tools and Technology Online orientation: moving to Canvas to be available through Myportal sign-in and will include information check points to test for comprehension of content. Starfish: early alert and at risk follow-up tool ($42,900). EduNav: planning tool for counselors and students ($293,625 for 3 years). Pathways: piloting software that will deliver accurate core service completion data. At no cost for the pilot.

5 Staffing Two staff positions in Counseling to support Starfish (a program coordinator and a specialist). One testing technician In Assessments to support placement testing in high schools and implementation of common assessment and multiple measures. Part time counselors in Outreach for ed plan work, follow up, and delivery of core services in high schools.

6 High School Pre-enrollment services
Delivery of core services: assessment, orientation, and abbreviated ed plans. Scheduled at 39 high schools with list still growing. Introducing multiple measures pilot for math at the high schools. Open House: offering placement testing and orientation/ed plan workshops at the Open House.

7 SSSP and Equity Counselor Collaboration
Monthly meetings held for SSSP and Equity counselors. Networking and community building. Provide in-service and training. Collaboration on student conferences and other events.

8 Budget Update Year End Expenditure Report completed and submitted to the Chancellor’s Office on time. Also posted online for review. Budget allocation: $3,779,561 ($732,952 increase from ) Match 1:1 Two year spending cycle starting with allocation.

9 Equity Update Winter 2017

10 Beginning with the 2016 – 2017 funding year, colleges and districts will have two fill years to expend BSI, SE, and SSSP allocations. Thus, colleges will have until June 30, 2018, to spend funds from all three programs allocated for the 2016 – 2017 academic year and beyond. 11 Office of Equity Transition for AY2017 – 2018:
Evaluation Update-Ola met with many of the equity partners and they are requesting data from IR Increased collaboration among equity partners Student groups gathering in solidarity

13 STEM High School Conference African American Workshop Coordinator (Got Science?) and Latino Conference (STEM Si Se Puede). Presentation by Dr. Taylor Kidd (Radio Astronomer) "How the heck can they tell there's water in the atmosphere of a Neptune like planet some 120 lightyears distant?" Number of Attendees 80+ Upcoming Events STEM Transfer Day April 7th at UCSC STEM Week (May 1st to 4th) in collaboration with Helen Pang (Career Services) and Ashley Philips (Workforce Education)

14 Outreach League for Innovation Excellence Award Recipient 2 Latinx High School Conferences African American High School Conference Filipino/Pacific Islander/Southeast Asian High School Conference (Spring 2017) Men of Color Community Educational workshops with partner high schools Stanford University trip

15 Veterans Veterans Resource Center now open Veterans Student Awareness training Providing workshops with Career Counselor UMOJA Umoja’s First African American Career Panel

16 Items for Discussion Filipino & Pacific Islander students-How will we continue to serve these students? Homeless students-How do address this increasing population? Online students-What equity practices are being including for our online students? LGBTQ, Working parents, & Undocumented students-Should we include these student populations in our future revised Student Equity Plan? SSSP/Equity Advisory-How do we continue to provide equity trainings for this committee?
