The spirit is a driving force which can renew and remake the world It is not only symbolized by a dove, but by also wind and fire Why do you think that is?

Why would it be important in our faith? Where does spirit reside? Why do you think God gives spirit to us? What is the Pentecost? Once the apostles were filled with the spirit, they could not contain their enthusiasm

In 5 examples, explain who helped you most throughout these phases of life How is this similar to what the church experienced? Who did it/does it depend on to grow?

5 How the church got started
What event is all of Christian faith based on? Who shaped the church and helped it grow after Jesus ascended? What was the ultimate proof of Jesus’ divinity? Who did he send to help them witness the faith?

6 A Spirit filled church When did the holy spirit come to the apostles?
What did the holy spirit encourage them to do? What did the holy spirit’s influence lead to? Read acts of the Apostles 2:38, what did Peter tell the people they must do to be saved?

7 What are you inspired by?
We will start with a quick prayer DO NOW: What would encourage you to stand in front of a crowd? What would you work for? What is your greatest passion?

You are going to create brochures that the holy spirit would use Fold a piece of paper three ways 1. The Holy Spirit: Draw an image of the holy spirit with a slogan it would use underneath 2. Did you know? (The history of the Holy Spirit): What did it do for the church? How did it encourage the apostles? During what event did it present itself to the apostles? Why did Jesus send the Holy Spirit? 3. Your personal relationship with the Holy Spirit: What does it inspire you to do? How will it inspire you to act? Why should others welcome the holy spirit?

Narrator 1: For nine days, the disciples waited and prayed in Jerusalem as Jesus had told them. Narrator 2: Mary, his Mother, was with them. Narrator 1: Suddenly from the sky came a terrific sound, the sound of a strong wind. Narrator 2: A wonderful wind that roared through the house. Apostle 1: And fire appeared, Apostle 2: Flaming tongues

All: (with quiet awe) In wind and fire, the Spirit came and filled the followers of Jesus. Narrator 2: Filled them with faith, filled them with courage, filled them with knowledge, and filled them with zeal. All: (powerfully) They went forth! Narrator 1: People who gathered from many lands for the Jewish feast of Pentecost . . . All: (excitedly) understood the disciples’ words!

Narrator 2: Some were spellbound, mystified. Narrator 1: Skeptics sneered, “Too much wine!” Narrator 2: To which Peter replied, Peter: “It’s only nine o’clock. This is God’s work.” Narrator 1: Then a new, bold Peter proclaimed: All apostles: (boldly) “Jesus is risen. The Spirit he promised is poured out on us.” All apostles: And 3,000 believed and were baptized.

15 Narrator 1: In wind and fire, the Spirit came and filled the followers of Jesus. Mary: The Holy Spirit brightens and enlightens, Peter: creates, and renews. All: The Spirit still comes to fill the followers of Jesus, Apostle 1: to sweep away sin Apostle 2: and to set hearts burning. All: (powerfully) Come, Spirit of Jesus, come!

16 Solidarity What is solidarity? Why is it so important in a faith?
Solidarity unites rich and poor, weak and strong, and helps to create a society that recognizes that we all live in an interconnected world
