4 Holy Spirit Paraclete is another name for the Holy Spirit meaning “advocate, defender, consoler” The Holy Spirit is the one who inspires people and the Church. The gifts of the Spirit are an outpouring of God’s gifts to help us live a Christian life. There are seven.

5 Gifts of the Spirit When we see these gifts at work, we see the Holy Spirit. Describe an event or someone that has inspired you. Read Is. 11:2 – 3; The gifts of the Spirit are listed in scripture. Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel (Right Judgment), Fortitude, Piety, and Fear of the Lord.

6 The Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit always was, with God the Father and Son. The Holy Spirit has “spoken through the prophets.” The Holy Spirit guided the biblical authors to reveal God’s Word. (example: electricity) Old Testament authors use the words “wind” or “breath” to describe the Spirit.

7 Pentecost The Holy Spirit made herself known to us specifically in the event of Pentecost. Pentecost was a Jewish feast, when all were gathered in Jerusalem. 50 days after Passover for the Jews, after Easter for Catholics. Read Acts 2: 1 – 41, and 2: 2 - 4

9 The Birthday of the Church Pentecost is known as the birthday of the church. It was the first moment people started to talk about the mystery of Christ to other people. They shared the Paschal Mystery: the moment of Salvation and Redemption. What Christ accomplished was made known to all by the power of the Holy Spirit.

12 The Holy Spirit Today Gives gifts to build up the Church –make us holy. These gifts are also known as charisms (a special gift of the Holy Spirit that builds up the church) Dwells in the Church and in the hearts of the baptized. Teaches us how to pray, and prays on our behalf.
