2 What is the VSAS Application?

4 Step 1: Receive VSAS Authorizations
Request authorizations from your visiting student coordinator or student affairs office. You will then receive a VSAS: New User Instructions with login information.

5 Step 2: Complete Application Profile
Provide core clerkship and contact information.

6 Step 3: Review Host Requirements
Review host application requirements, institution information, and when each will begin accepting applications.

7 Step 4: Upload & Assign Documents
Upload your CV, photo, immunization forms, and supplemental documentation. Assign those documents to a specific host institution or elective application. Only your medical school can upload transcripts.

8 Step 5: Search for & Apply to Electives
Search through elective opportunities and save those you are interested in for future application. When ready, select saved electives (with requested dates) and submit application.

9 Step 6: Track Applications
Accept or decline received offers and monitor application statuses through your Tracking tab.

10 Fees for VSAS Who pays VSAS fees? Students Students pay VSAS application fees based on the number of institutions they apply to, not the number of electives they apply for. The fee for the first institution applied to is $35, regardless of the number of electives applied for at that institution. The fee for each additional institution is $15, again, regardless of the number of electives applied for at those institutions. For example, if a student applies for electives at three institutions, their total fees will equal $65: $35 1st institution fee $15 2nd institution fee $15 3rd institution fee $65 TOTAL fees *If the student re-applies to one of these three institutions, they will not be charged a second application fee.

11 Fees for VSAS Refund Policy VSAS does not offer refunds. Refunds will not be given if you do not meet the visiting student requirements of a host institution, there are no slots available or for applications sent to programs whose deadlines have already passed. Please ensure that you are aware of all host institution requirements and policies prior to submitting an application to that institution through VSAS.

All questions and requests for VSAS should be ed to the scheduling listserv: Please Note: Applications are not released to host institution until the student makes the request to The Registrar’s Office will only upload VSAS transcripts and Letters of Recommendation into VSAS system. Students uploads all other documentation. Your VSAS transcript will be upload after you have sent a request to If the host institution requires additional forms, The Registrar’s Office will assist in completing them. Please Note: We cannot sign any form that requires the signature of a Health Care provider.

Letters of Good standing with malpractice and health insurance coverage and copies of your immunizations can be made with the Student Request Form on the OSA website: If a Criminal Background Check is requested, you will need to have a new Background check done. The CBC done at matriculation was for matriculation purposes only and is not in your student file. Applications are not releases to host institution until the student makes the request.
