2 Objectives Analyze characteristics that may not be ideal and compare to good characteristics Define why a workplace should strive to be ideal List and define the 5 characteristics of an ideal workplace Explain the importance of each characteristic Provide examples for further understanding

Keep employees in the workplace, happy, motivated, inspired Boosts progress due to morale Instills trust Opens up communication Begins on the first day employees are hired to allow for comfort in the workplace

Having a Clear Vision Consistency in Expectations Setting Standards Providing Access to Resources and Training Employee Recognition Google Headquarters

7 Having a Clear Vision Definition : The vision should describe what the business/ institution wants to accomplish in the future. The purpose is to inspire employees and lead them to “buy-in” to the business goals. The vision must be clear and give direction to the employees so that they can determine how they can help their business achieve the vision. Examples: Our vision is to be the recognized leader in oncology nursing in a professional practice environment that supports our core values. Our vision it to be a leader of a clinically integrated network of providers and to continue to be recognized as a leading medical center in Florida and one of the best in the nation.

8 2. Consistency in Expectations
Definition: making rules and regulations clear and not allowing special treatment for employees that do not abide; keeping the bar at the same level for everyone and making them aware of this Examples: Every employee starts work at the designated time Approval of vacation time done on “first come first serve” basis Tardiness policies must be kept up for ALL employees Following dress code

Setting Standards Definition: letting the employees know what is expected of them individually and what is expected of the company Examples: Cell phone & private internet use during company time Rules regarding customer service: (i.e. must answer customer call within 24 hour of receiving) All employees must maintain professionalism Employees not adhering to the standard levels may be subject to a disciplinary action

10 4. Providing Access to Resources and Training
Definition: giving the employee the tools needed to perform tasks successfully; provide training to new employees Examples: Allocating time to provide necessary & effective training the first day of work and continuing of education through seminars thereafter Providing employees with internet access, computers, phones etc. Paying for fuel or providing a car for travel Employee hotline numbers, help desks, & issue tracking systems

Employee Recognition Definition: providing reimbursement for success in the workplace through nominal, emotional, and verbal manners Examples: Nominal: gift card, time off, parking spot closer to building Emotional: talking to the employee and giving proper recognition individually Verbal: giving recognition in meetings in front of all

12 Conclusion Building an ideal environment builds a desired workplace
An ideal workplace can provide positive things (morale, personality, progress) All 5 characteristics of an ideal workplace play an important role Creating an ideal workplace can cause for an environmental culture change Opening communication and trust
