“Visionary goals are compelling, reaching and help an organization to progress towards an envisioned future”

7 Examples of Visionary Goals
Amazon: Every book, ever printed, in any language, all available in less than 60 seconds. Disney: Be the best company in the world for all fields of family entertainment. Google: Organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. Microsoft: A computer on every desk and in every home. (besides who needs more than 640K of memory?) Nokia Siemens Networks: Connect 5 billion people by 2015. Sony: Embody changing the image of Japanese products as being of poor quality; create a pocket transistor radio.

8 Definition: Strategic Goal
“The desired end result.” Major directions of the organization based on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats (SWOT) Long term perspective 3-5 years Action verb – Improve, Reduce, Increase Example: Improve customer experience Objectives Initiatives

9 Definition: Strategic Objective
“Specific and measurable for accomplishment of a goal.” May be several objectives contributing to strategic goal Shorter duration 1-3 years, or smaller scope (branch or specific aspect) Action verb – Improve, Reduce, Increase Example: Improve customer experience Build personalization in services Initiatives

“Specific projects or activities aimed toward achieving the objectives.” May contribute to several objectives or goals Time bound – start and end date Title Test – should be able to give it a title (and a description) Example: Improve customer experience Build personalization in services MyWaterloo Portal
