1 Integrated Performance Assessment

2 What is it? It is a way of assessing students on what they know, understand, and are able to do with a language. It is based on real-world scenarios It uses “authentic” or real materials It is in place of a large unit test

6 Part 1: Interpretive Task
Students listen to or read an authentic text and answer interpretive questions to assess comprehension. In other words… Read or Listen to something from the real world and answer question to see if you understand.

7 Part 2: Interpersonal Task
Students engage in a oral communication about a topic that relates to the unit. In other words… You and a partner talk in Spanish as the teacher listens and evaluates you on a rubric

8 Part 3: Presentational Task
Students engage in a presentation for the class by sharing research/ideas/opinions in Spanish.

9 When and How? The INTERPRETIVE task will happen TOMORROW in class.
You may NOT use your notes during the task. You SHOULD review your notes (“Can Do”) for homework.

10 When and How? We will spend one class period preparing for the INTERPERSONAL TASK. We will spend one to two days in class on assessing the task. When you participate in the task, you may NOT use your notes. Don’t worry…we have done a speaking activity like this before in class. You did well 

11 When and How? We will work on the PRESENTATIONAL task for three to five days in class. We will have laptops for research and preparation. You get to choose the format of your presentation. Here’s your chance to shine! You should realllllllly prepare well because you may NOT use notes during the presentation. So practice, practice, practice!!!

12 Rubrics and Grading Your Grade: ONE Major Assessment Grade for the Marking Period (All 3 Tasks combined for 150 points total) worth 50% of your marking period grade.

13 The Packet… All of this information will be given to you in a packet with your name already on it. The packet will remain in class every day. You may not take it home with you.

14 How to prepare Organize your binder according to the “I Can…” statements Review school schedule vocabulary (7th grade) and food vocabulary (8th grade) to prepare for the Interpretive Task.

16 Interpretive Task Day Read all directions carefully.
No talking or using notes. Answer all questions in English. Be sure to answer the question completely. When finished, turn in your packet and organize your binder according to “I can” statements

17 Interpersonal Task – Prep Day 7th
Check out your grade for the Interpretive Task (see rubrics in the back of the packet). Open to the Interpersonal Task – Interview Preparation Worksheet Read the questions in English and prepare answers in writing in Spanish. You may use your notes

18 Interpersonal Task – Prep Day 8th
Check out your grade for the Interpretive Task (see rubrics in the back of the packet). Open to the Interpersonal Task – Conversation Preparation Worksheet Read the questions in English and prepare answers in writing in Spanish using the Map (Appendix #3). You may use your notes

19 Let’s Review The Q’s 7th ¿Cómo eres? ¿Qué clases tienes?
¿Cómo son las clases? ¿Cómo son los amigos y profesores? ¿Qué tienes en la mochila? ¿Qué te gusta hacer después de escuela o el fin de semana?

21 Speaking Prep Round 1 – 1st partner. Partner 1 asks questions in Spanish using notes; Partner 2 answers questions in Spanish using notes. Switch roles Round 2 – 2nd partner. Partner asks questions in Spanish using notes; Partner 2 answers questions in Spanish with limited notes. Switch roles. Round 3 – 3rd partner. Partner asks questions in Spanish using notes; Partner 2 answers questions in Spanish without notes. Switch roles. HW: Practice speaking at home

22 Interpersonal Task You may review your preparation worksheet until you are called. You will be called in random order. The questions, in Spanish, will be at the table. Review the final task, Presentational Task, directions in your packet after you finish the Interpersonal Task with me. We will have computers tomorrow, you are meant to start brainstorming today. You may work individually or in partners.

24 Tips for Presenting Do we understand you?
Clear pronunciation, slow speech How well do I use the Spanish language? Correct vocabulary and grammar How well do I capture and maintain the interest of the audience? Visuals, engaging, movement, fluid How well do I organize the presentation? Includes all of the necessary requirements

25 Your Grade Look for THREE numbers:
____/80 = How well you did on the Presentational Task. This number is not recorded in a gradebook. ____/150 = All of the three sections (Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational) combined. ___ % = The above ____/150 to come up with a final Major Assessment Grade to be added in Genesis (worth 50% of your entire MP grade)

26 The Survey Turn in your packet and pick up a survey.
You can leave it anonymous. Please be honest and respectful. Interpretive – Schedules/Menus + Chart/Short Answers Interpersonal – Speaking with a partner Presentational – The presentation you just did.
