Woman Found Brutally Murdered in Chelsea, Boyfriend Kills Himself in Financial District
A 26-year-old woman was found murdered in her Chelsea apartment by her sister last night, and the murder victim's boyfriend--and the murder suspect, according to police-- killed himself a few hours after the discovery.
Margaux Powers's family had been worried they didn't hear from her for a few days, so her sister Dana went to Margaux's apartment at 235 West 22nd Street on Friday night. Doorman Constantine Ionescu accompanied Dana to the apartment, and the Daily News reports though they found Powers' cellphone, "the apartment appeared orderly and there was no odor...But they did not think to check behind the closed bathroom door."
Then last night, Dana Powers returned with friends and they, with Ionescu, checked the apartment at 6 p.m., this time checking the bathroom and found Margaux's body under a green blanket. Ionescu said Dana was distraught, "She said, 'No! No! It's not possible. Tell me it's not true!'...I just saw some hands... I didn't want to look. I didn't see her face. When I saw the girl, I prayed." It's unclear when Powers was killed--her throat was slit and her body was "chopped into pieces."
Police: Man was shooter in murder-suicide

Oct. 26, 2008 | Police said this morning that it was the 24-year-old man who shot and killed a 25-year-old woman and then killed himself in a murder suicide that occurred in the 2800 block of N. Sholes Ave. Family members identified the woman as Miranda Young, 25, a nursing student and a graduate of Riverside University High. They identified the man as Phil Hughes, 24, Young's boyfriend. Young's brother, Emmette Taper, said on Saturday that his sister had planned to leave Hughes. Their bodies were found at the north side home Saturday.

I have a story to share — a story about my 26-year old daughter, Gina Marie, my 3-year old grandson, Shaun Edward, and my 7-month old grandson, Joshua Lee. They were murdered in an arson fire in Jeannette, PA on June 9, My son-in-law has been found guilty of this dreadful act of violence and is serving three consecutive life sentences.
Wednesday June 9, 1993, our son-in-law poured gasoline in the living room, up the stairs, and right into Gina's bedroom, lit a match, and walked away — walked away with not a burn on his body; walked away with no carbon monoxide in his lungs; walked away while my daughter and two grandsons died in the inferno. The cycle of domestic violence was now complete — he now had the ultimate form of control — Gina, Shaun, Joshua — they were now the silent witnesses to murder.
