1 God’s Great Compassion
“For God so loved the World that He gave his only Son” John 3:16 Our Great Commission!

2 This Great Commission reveals God’s great plan!
Salvation Lk 19:10 “come to seek and save” A. Our Part: (As God’s Messengers) Phil. 1:6 “in the fellowship in the gospel” 1) Declaration! “Preach the gospel” Mk 16:15 Ro. 10:14 “how can they believe on them in whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without a preacher?” Acts 1:8 “Ye shall be witnesses unto me…”

3 1. Salvation A. Our Part 2) Explanation. “teach all nations”
a) The Meaning: mathēteu’ō (from mantha’nō) Help them to understand “the Gospel” (Mk 16:15) Example: Philip and the Ethiopian: Acts 8:30-31 “Understandest thou what thou readest? How can I, except some man should guide me?”

4 B. God’s Part: 1) Conviction. Salvation!
Jn 16:8 “He (God’s Spirit) will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:” Ro 3:19-20 “we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by th e deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”

5 B. God’s Part: Conviction… Salvation!
2) Illumination. 2 Cor. 4:4,6 “the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them that believe not… But God who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ…”

6 B. God’s Part: a) To those who will respond: Salvation!
Conviction…Illumination… a) To those who will respond: Salvation! (1) Reconciliation. 2 Cor. 5:19 “God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” “He made him (Jesus) to be sin for us…that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him!” Vs 21

7 B. God’s Part: (2) Adoption: Ro 8:15-16 “ye have received the
a) To those who will respond: Salvation! (2) Adoption: Ro 8:15-16 “ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God” Eph 2:19 “ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God”

8 a) To those who will respond: Reconciliation… Adoption…
A. God’s Part: a) To those who will respond: Reconciliation… Adoption… Salvation! (3) Translation: Col 1:13 “God…hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and translated us (transferred) into the kingdom of his dear Son:” Phil. 3:20 “For our conversation (citizenship) is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus.”

9 …Beloved, now are we the sons of God!
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed on us, that we should be called the sons of God: 1 Jn. 3: 1-3 …Beloved, now are we the sons of God! and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.”

10 b) For those who don’t respond:
Heb. 2:3 “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?” Salvation! (1) Rejection: Mt 7:22-23 ”Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not …in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you! depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

11 (2) Condemnation: John 3:17-18
Heb. 2:3 “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?” b) For those who don’t respond: Salvation! (2) Condemnation: John 3:17-18 “God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

12 Mt 25:41 “Depart from me, ye cursed,
into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:” Rev. 21:15 “whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

13 Salvation is only the beginning of God’s great desire!
Mt. 28:19 “Baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost”

14 God’s Great Plan for His People. 2.“Baptizing them…”
Mt. 28:19 If God’s plan for Salvation involves: Conviction, Illumination, Reconciliation, Adoption, and Translation; What does Baptism involve?

15 God’s Great Plan for His People. 2.“Baptizing them…”
Mt. 28:19 Salvation is really about believing! (God’s great gospel) Baptism is really about belonging! (To God’s people, purpose, plan)

16 A. What is baptism 1) Meaning: Βαπτίζω (baptizo)
a) From a derivative of bapto; to make whelmed (1) To cover wholly with a fluid. (2) To Dye or stain. “Baptized” is found 89 times in the Bible and it is always the word “baptizo”!

17 A. What is baptism Note: The Greek word Sprinkle is "rhantizo“ (Heb. 9:13,19,21) It’s never translated “baptized” in the Bible. 3) The Greek word for “Poured” is “ekche’ō” (See Rev. 16) It’s also never translated “baptized” in the Bible. Why did God consistently choose the word Baptizo in every one of the 89 references to Baptism?

18 A. What is baptism 2) The Biblical Method. (Immersion)
a) John the Baptist. John 3:23 "Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there." Mark 1:5 "Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to Him, and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River."

19 out of the water… 2) The Biblical Method. (Immersion)
b) Jesus: Mt 3:14-17 “comest thou to me? Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water…

20 2) The Biblical Method. (Immersion)
c) Ethiopian: Acts 8:38-39 “they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water… the eunuch went on his way rejoicing.”

21 B. Why is it important to God?
1) Baptism = Association/Identification. a) Jesus was “associating” with his Father. Mt 3: ‘when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

22 B. Why is it important to God?
1) Baptism = Association/Identification. b) At Baptism, the early believers were associating with: (1) Jesus Acts 2:38 “Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus…”

23 even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
b) Early believers were “associating” with: (1) With Jesus: Ro 6:3-4 “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

24 as well as to “dye or stain”. We “represent” Jesus to our world!
b) Early believers were “associating” with: (1) With Jesus: Ro 6:3-4 Remember “Baptizo” comes from “bapto” which means both to “make fully wet” as well as to “dye or stain”. We “represent” Jesus to our world!

25 B. Why is it important to God?
b) Early believers were “associating” with: (1) With Jesus. Acts 2:38 (2) With His Church. Acts 2:41 “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”

26 b) Early believers were “associating” with:
With Jesus (Acts 2:38) and His Church (vs 41) 1 Cor 12:13-14 “by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body… For the body is not one member, but many.” vs. 27 “Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.”

27 Salvation is about “believing”, Baptism is about “belonging”.
Conclusion: Salvation is about “believing”, Baptism is about “belonging”. If the meaning and method Salvation and of biblical baptism is so clear, why is there so much confusion? “God is not the author of confusion” (1 Cor. 14:43)

28 Are you part of God’s Great Plan?
Have you responded to His offer of Salvation? Has God’s Spirit Brought Conviction and Illumination to you? Have you responded with Repentance and Faith? Allowing God to bring Reconciliation, Adoption, and Translation?

29 Are you part of God’s Great Plan? Have you been willing to
be “associated” with Him and His church in scriptural baptism? “they were pricked in their heart, and said …what shall we do? Peter answered, Repent, and be baptized …”

30 If Not, Why Not? “Whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” Mark 8:38
