18 Framework Teacher leadership is exhibited in any number of settings in the school: within one’s own school in the district, the state, or even the entire nation. None of these settings is to be preferred over any other; they are different locations of work. It is sometimes more of a challenge to convince one’s close colleagues to attempt a new approach than it is to promote something on a state or even national level: a department or team is more like family and may be more critical of one’s ideas.

19 School Culture “The school’s culture affects how individuals treat one another, the expectations people have for their own and others’ behavior, and the belief structure underlying school practices.”

24 Teacher Leadership That Strengthens Professional Practice
The focus of the Teacher Survey, pages 151 – 153, is school culture. The teacher survey offered here invites teachers to select, from several options, the statement that best describes the situation in their school with respect to several aspects of culture. By tabulating the results, educators can get a good sense of the tone of the school; the results might well point to areas that could be improved.
