2 A = True B = False Plickers QUIZ! www.plickers.com
You have been assigned a Plickers card. Each card has a number on it. Actually in each corner, you can see the number. On each side is a letter. We are only going to use A and B. A is true and B is false. The letter at the top is your answer to the question. In this picture, what letter is pointing up? B. What answer is this card showing?

3 Alief U Technology Credit
Technology Credit levels 1, 2, and 3 are assigned to all district technology sessions. Alief U2 Tech credit is only assigned to technology sessions that take place outside of a teacher’s contract time. Notice in this example that the credits are different numbers – 2.5 and 3.5 respectively. They are discrete credit types.

6 Eduphoria Portfolio Here you can see the Portfolio Summary at the top and then the professional development windows below. Each of the Portfolio Entries can be expanded to show the events that occurred within that timeframe. The timeframe is March to February which matches when teachers are required to earn their hours each year.

7 Eduphoria Portfolio This slide shows the summary and an expanded version of March 2017 to February We will only use this window to determine if she has met the professional development expectations for the school year.

8 Eduphoria Portfolio There are two different documents for Alief U Graduate Studies. One for regular education teachers and one for special education teachers. If you have a special education teacher on your campus in year 2 of induction, their name is highlighted on your tracking form. I have also included the plan the teacher and their special education coordinator completed together for completing the requirements.

9 Teachers who know more, have students who know more.

10 Write your name with your right elbow.
BRAIN BOOST Body Writing Write your name with your right elbow. Write the name of your school with your left elbow. Write the number of teachers on your campus with your right foot. Write the number of teachers you supervise with your left foot. High five your neigbor!

12 ALIEF U UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES Fall/Spring
STOIC – 7 hours (Saturday) Action Based Learning – 7 hours (Saturday) Technology – 3.5 hours (online) ELL Orientation – 3.5 hours (after school) TTESS Not part of Alief U Condition of employment Teachers who did not attend the summer session of Alief U will have fewer course requirements. For the past two years, we have allowed teachers to register themselves for the technology course to allow them to have choice about the time of year and instructional format (online or face-to-face), but too many teachers did not complete the course. This year, I will schedule them for an online course timeframe – 2 weeks.

13 Professional Development without follow-up is educational malpractice.
Only 5-10% of professional development is implemented without follow-up. Although it happens over time. Having Action Based Learning and Moving Minds in Alief U and STOIC and Interactions and Corrections gives teachers at least some follow-up. In addition, we have 4 Prevention and Safe School Specialists and 2 Action Based Learning facilitators who are helping teachers to implement what they have learned in professional development. Tell your neighbor one thing you are going to focus on as a campus and how you will provide professional development with follow-up.

16 ALIEF U TRACKING SHEET You each picked up tracking sheets for your campus. Let’s look at Alief U Graduate Studies. The sheet is pre-populated with the teachers (to the best of my knowledge) that are on your campus. We are going to look at an Eduphoria record for Tracee Grigsby and track her attendance for Alief U. We will first look for Action Based Learning.

17 Let’s Take a Look Do you see Action Based Learning on this portfolio?

18 ALIEF U TRACKING SHEET Yes. So I put an X in that column. Now we will look for Interactions and Corrections.

19 Let’s Take a Look Do you see Interactions and Corrections on this record?

20 ALIEF U TRACKING SHEET Yes. So I put an X in that column. Now we will look for technology choice. What credit type are we looking for?

21 Let’s Take a Look Look under credit items. Do you see 7 hours of Alief U2 Tech credit?

22 ALIEF U TRACKING SHEET No. We see 3.5 hours of Alief U2 Tech credit. I put an X on 3.5 hours and highlighted 3.5 hours. The highlight for me indicates that the coursework is missing. Now we will look for 14 hours of meaningful work choice. What credit type are we looking for?

23 Let’s Take a Look Do you see 14 hours of Alief U2 MW credit?

24 ALIEF U TRACKING SHEET Yes. So I put an X on all four columns indicating that she completed 14 hours of meaningful work credit.

25 When you are finished, share your findings with your neighbor.
Guided Practice Complete examples 1 and 2 Met expectations? If not, what is missing? When you are finished, share your findings with your neighbor. Use your chart and examples 1 and 2 to see if these two teachers have met the professional development expectations for Alief U Graduate Studies; and if not, what is missing?

26 Track attendance Communicate progress
YOUR TURN Track attendance Communicate progress Track attendance for the teachers you supervise and use the templates (or your own verbiage) to communicate to each teacher his/her progress toward meeting the Alief U Graduate Studies professional development expectations for the school year.

27 Find someone you don’t know Introduce yourself
BRAIN BOOST Find someone you don’t know Introduce yourself Talk about the completion rate of your teachers in Alief U Graduate Studies – year 2 induction

28 Teachers need 49 hours of professional development on a single topic or concept to become proficient.

29 ALIEF U CONTINUING EDUCATION
Moving Minds (7 hours) Alief U3 credit Technology choice (7 hours) Alief U3 Tech credit Meaningful Relationships choice (7 hours) Alief U3 MR credit Meaningful Work choice (14 hours) Alief U3 MW credit Year 3 induction. There is one district initiative course – Moving Minds. Then they have choices within three categories – technology, meaningful relationships, and meaningful work.

30 ALIEF U TRACKING SHEET Let’s look at your Alief U Continuing Education tracking sheet. The sheet is pre-populated with the teachers (to the best of my knowledge) that are on your campus. We are going to look at an Eduphoria record for Patricia Grady and track her attendance for Alief U. We will first look for Moving Minds.

31 Let’s Practice Together
Do you see Moving Minds on her portfolio?

32 ALIEF U TRACKING SHEET Yes. So I put an X in that column. Now we will look for technology choice. What credit type am I looking for on her record?

33 Let’s Practice Together
Do you see Alief U3 Tech credit on her portfolio?

34 ALIEF U TRACKING SHEET No. So I highlighted both 3.5 fields because she is missing 7 hours of Alief U3 Tech credit. Now we will look for meaningful relationships choice. What credit type am I looking for?

35 Let’s Practice Together
Do you see any meaningful relationships credit?

36 ALIEF U TRACKING SHEET No. I do not see any Alief U3 MR credit. However, I do see that she is registered for Secondary Cultural Responsiveness on October 14, Because I know the course, I know that it is assigned Alief U3 MR credit. The bad news with this system, is that you can’t click on a course that a teacher is registered for and find out what credit types will be assigned to the course. You would have to go into Workshop and find the class to see the credits associated with it. When communicating with this teacher I would acknowledge that the course will fulfill the MR credit and impress the importance of attending. There are limited opportunities for meaningful relationships credit in the spring. Now we will look for meaningful work choice. What credit type am I looking for?

37 Let’s Practice Together
Do you see any meaningful work credit?

38 ALIEF U TRACKING SHEET Yes. So I put an X on all four columns indicating that she completed 14 hours of meaningful work credit.

39 When you are finished, share your findings with your neighbor.
Guided Practice Complete examples 3 and 4 Met expectations? If not, what is missing? When you are finished, share your findings with your neighbor. Use your chart and examples 3 and 4 to see if these two teachers have met the professional development expectations for Alief U Graduate Studies; and if not, what is missing?

40 Track attendance Communicate progress
YOUR TURN Track attendance Communicate progress Track attendance for the teachers you supervise and use the templates (or your own verbiage) to communicate to each teacher his/her progress toward meeting the Alief U Continuing Education professional development expectations for the school year.
