Weald Rise Primary School
Year 6 SATs Parents meeting 2017
2
What are SATs? SATs stands for Standard Assessment Tests.
Many children will have completed Key Stage 1 SATs at the end of Year 2. KS2 SATs are taken in the week of 8th May in Reading, SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) and Mathematics. Writing will receive a Teacher Assessment level. Results are received by the school in July and parents are then informed. SATs results have no effect on High School entry.
3
Year 6 All pupils in Year 6 are entered for the test, unless there are exceptional circumstances. Absent children are included in the school’s percentage results. There may be cases where children are eligible to have extra time allocated, have some tests read or scribed. The school has already made all the necessary arrangements for this.

An overall level is awarded, although children may achieve different levels for each paper. Children receive a reading level, a writing level and a third, overall English level.

Teacher Assessment In addition to the test results in Reading and Mathematics your child will be given a teacher assessment level. This may be different to their test result as teacher assessment covers areas of the curriculum that the SATs do not, for example, speaking and listening.

How we are preparing in school
We carry out Mock SATs weeks so pupils will know what to expect. We have been working in sets for Mathematics to target specific areas for improvement. Extra English and Mathematics lessons will take place in the lead up to the tests. These will target specific areas for example, extra guided reading sessions. Teachers will be giving some revision guides to the children to help them prepare. Booster classes
8
Key Stage 2 Reading The reading test is a single paper with questions based on three passages of text. Your child will have one hour, including reading time, to complete the test.
