1 Answering Popular Religious Comments
“being ready always to give answer” (1 Pet. 3:15) “that you may know how you ought to answer” (Col. 4:6)

2 Popular Religious Comments
“You think you are the only ones going to heaven.” Truth is not determined by what we think, but by what God’s word says (Jn. 17:17) What if someone said this to Noah (Gen. 7:23; 1 Pet. 3:20), to Moses (Ex. 12:22) or to Paul (Ac. 27:31)?

3 Popular Religious Comments
“You think you are the only ones going to heaven.” God determines who is saved. He said we must be in the body of Christ to be saved (Eph. 4:4; 5:23; Col. 1:18,24) Not everyone is going to heaven (Mt. 25:46)

4 Popular Religious Comments
“I don’t like religion crammed down my throat.” Try this with your parents, teacher, the policeman, your doctor, or your boss God invites us to accept truth, he doesn’t force us to change (Mt. 11:28; Rev. 21:17)

5 Popular Religious Comments
“I don’t like religion crammed down my throat.” God cares enough for us to give us the prescription to good spiritual health. But he doesn’t force us to take it (Deut. 30:15, 19)

6 Popular Religious Comments
“There are hypocrites in the church.” Do the hypocrites in the world around you keep you from going to work, to the store, to school, etc. Clearly, there are religious hypocrites, and they are wrong (Mt. 15:7; 23:18-29)

7 Popular Religious Comments
“There are hypocrites in the church.” Two wrongs (you and the hypocrite) doesn’t make it right; it doesn’t change God’s word Would you rather spend a little time with hypocrites on earth, or an eternity with hypocrites in hell (Mt. 24:51)? You decide!

8 Popular Religious Comments
“I don’t have to go to church to go to heaven.” We don’t go to church; Christians are the church (Mt. 18:17; Ac. 8:3; 11:22) A person can be “good”, even religious, and still be lost (Mt. 7:21-22; Ac. 10:1-2; 11:14; 17:22,30)

9 Popular Religious Comments
“I don’t have to go to church to go to heaven.” Some acts of worship can be done only in the assembly of saints (1 Cor. 11:20) and we are not to forsake the assembling of ourselves (Heb. 10:24)

10 Popular Religious Comments
“One church is as good as another ... it doesn’t matter what church you belong to.” Yes, if you are talking about man- made churches; they are all equal (Mt. 15:13) No, if you are talking about man-made churches, and the church of Jesus (Mt. 16:18; Ac. 2:47)

11 Popular Religious Comments
“One church is as good as another ... it doesn’t matter what church you belong to.” Question: Can you belong to the “Church of Satan” (an actual church)?

12 Popular Religious Comments
“Are you saying my … [family member] … is going to hell?” God determines who is lost and who is saved, not man (Mk. 16:16; Ac. 2:21,47) God will judge righteously using the standard of his word (Gen. 18:25; Rom. 2:5,16; 1 Tim. 2:4)

13 Popular Religious Comments
“Are you saying my … [family member] … is going to hell?” Our duty is to strive to be saved (Lk. 13:23-24)

14 Popular Religious Comments
“I’m happy with my church.” Happiness does not determine what is true and right, God’s word does Many who are happy (and active) in their religion can be wrong (Ac. 23:1; 26:9; Phil. 3:5-6); “my church” puts the focus on the way we have been raised

15 Popular Religious Comments
“I’m happy with my church.” We are not asking you to change churches, we are asking you to come to the truth of Christ (Phil. 3:8) Truth does not fear investigation. Are you willing to test yourself and what you have been taught (2 Cor. 13:5; Thess. 5:21; 1 Jn. 4:1)?
