Waterproofing: This is the method of giving the treatment to a surface or structure so as to avoid the passage of water under hydrostatic pressure is called water proofing “resistance of construction to the leakage of water is known as waterproofing.” Where it is done? Bathroom Toilets Terraces. Usually membrane waterproofing is used which is of one or two layers. Visit for more Learning Resources

2 Necessity: in building all the building components should remain dry as far ass possible. if this condition is not satisfied then the building becomes inhabitable & unsafe from structural point of view.in order to prevent the entry of water or to exit water from the building waterproofing is necessary. -to prevent leakage. -to maintain habitable condition. -to avoid entry of moisture inside the building. -to protect the various components of building -to increase the life of building.

3 Causes: Movement because of structural deflection & steep temperature variations are the main reasons for cracks which leads to the leakage. Types of waterproofing systems: Hydrophilic- water in the concrete is replaced by in soluble crystals Hydrophobic: Fatty acids which blocks the pores within concretes..

4 Water proofing for slab:
Following methods are used………. 1.finishing- cm 1:4 is used. 2.bedding concrete & flooring. brickbat lime concrete 1:2:4 cc 1:2:4,1:5:10,1:6:12 Th=100 mm over which tile are laid. 3.Mastic asphalt & jute cloth 4.Use of water proofing compounds.

5 Water proofing of sanitary block:
Bathroom Toilet Sink Basin Nahani trap =200 mm Indian wc =500 mm Water tightness of structures, pipes is important. 1:3 motor is used in waterproofing compounds are added.
