3 Rationale The principal is the catalyst for developing and sustaining the Professional Learning Community (PLC). PLC support teaching excellence and improved student achievement. PLC empower teachers to become leaders. Serge

Principals recognize the classroom behaviours that lead to improved student learning Job-embedded PD delivers the most powerful results Leaders lead PLC Nelly

11 Principal Learning Teams (PLT)
Group of principals working together as a professional learning community Meet at least 8 times over the course of the year Discuss challenges and successes in improving student achievement Participate in PD opportunities Joanne

12 Support for PLT Two day training session for team leaders and supervisory officers in August Symposia in January and June 2006 PD sessions offered by principals’ associations Student Achievement Officers as resources to the PLT Website through the Curriculum Services Canada Joanne

13 Research Provides for measurement & accountability
Social/emotional competencies for effective school leadership Led by Kenneth Leithwood, assisted by Carole Campbell Action Research Collection of data Progress report in January, 2006 Final report in October, 2006 Joanne

16 Roles and Responsibilities
The Team Leader will: Attend training session/symposia Social/Emotional competencies inquiry Work with PLT to share ideas, knowledge and strategies to mobilize and sustain PLC in their schools Maintain a record of meetings Serge

17 Roles and Responsibilities
Work with the PLT to define the specific goals related to literacy & numeracy Facilitate the meetings Collect data to report cohort success Liaise with provincial association to access PD Coordinate inter-school visitation for mutual support

Work with the research team to collect data Communicate with various partners: PLT members Supervisory Officers Provincial associations Student Achievement Officers Celebrate successes

Principal Learning Teams will: Attend all meetings Work with members of the PLT to share ideas, knowledge and strategies to mobilize and sustain PLC in their schools Develop specific goals related to the improvement of literacy & numeracy Nelly

Embed PD from project resources at the school level Share evidence of implementation and results Work with the research team to collect data

23 Roles and Responsibilities
Provincial Principals’ Associations will: Communicate with the Team Leaders and Board Contacts to provide information for training session and symposia Develop programs for training and symposia Provide PD and resources as identified by the PLT Joanne

24 Roles and Responsibilities
Provide access and training for e-learning tools such as web casts, net meetings, web conferences Monitor progress of the PLT Work with the research team to monitor and communicate student achievement Liaise with the Secretariat as required.

25 Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat
Joanne remind people that Colleen has just told them about the initiative

26 Roles and Responsibilities
The Secretariat will: Establish and maintain contact lists of project participants Correspond with directors of education as required Assign Student Achievement Officers to support PLT Liaise with provincial principals’ associations as required

School Boards will: Identify participants for the project Promote this project as a priority within the Board’s Plan The Supervisory Officer will: Attend training sessions and symposia Participate in PLT meetings as required Joanne

29 Roles and Responsibilities
Communicate with other supervisory officers regarding the project Visit the schools and work with the principals to celebrate the successes Work with principals to address challenges to meeting the goals of the project

31 Roles and Responsibilities
The Research Team will: Develop a framework in consultation with the Secretariat and principals’ associations Develop indicators of progress Develop the action research process that will be used to collect data and evidence Provide reports as required
