Our school follows a four-day rotation vs. a traditional five-day week. The 5th day is a “PANTHER” rotation. Day 1 will always be on Monday and Day 5 will always be on Friday.

5. Lunch and Recess This year recess will be AFTER lunch.
Lunch is from 12:05-12:35.
Recess is from 12:35-12:55.
Students are NOT allowed to bring toys from home to play with at recess. Level 4 students may bring recess equipment only to play with outside.

Behavior
Third grade uses a behavior level system 1, 2, 3, and 4. Each number represents a freedom level that can be obtained by each student. Freedom levels determine what students may be able to do throughout the school.
Students will begin each quarter on Level 3. Students will have the opportunity each day to move up a level. Students will begin each day with the level that they ended on the day before.
Students will fill out their Paw Pride Calendar each day with their current behavior level. It will go home each night and is expected back at school the next day. By signing your child’s assignment notebook, you are stating you have seen their Freedom Level for the day. At the end of the month, the calendar needs to be signed and turned in.
Individual classroom teachers may choose to incorporate other class motivators and/or reinforcements. This will be communicated to parents on an as needed basis.

Level 1 Volunteer/Visitor: Free
Volunteer application and formal background check are not necessary. No need to submit a form. Guests who are visiting office area and/or observing at a special event. Examples: Grandparents’ Day, Guest Speakers, Veterans’ Day Programs
Level 2 Volunteer/Visitor: Free
Access to students during the school day under supervision of Noblesville Schools’ staff (Requires Limited Criminal History Background Check) Examples: Lunch, Classroom Parties
Level 3 Volunteer/Visitor: $12.95
This volunteer can possibly have direct and unsupervised interaction with children. (Requires National Volunteer Background Check - Fee Applies) Examples: Field Trips, Classroom Volunteers 

8. Notes/ Money
It is imperative that if your child is to go somewhere other than “their normal dismissal plan” at any time, We MUST receive a short, dated, note stating where your child is to go. If your child does not have a note, they will follow the regular routine. If a dismissal change occurs during the school day, please notify the front office.
IMPORTANT: When sending in money for your child, please place it in an envelope labeled with the following:

Lunch money also needs your child’s lunch number
You can also use the PAYPAMS website to pay for your child’s lunch.

9. IREAD and ISTEP
All 3rd graders in the state of Indiana take IREAD and ISTEP.
IREAD is a reading comprehension test. All 3rd graders must pass IREAD in order to move on to 4th grade.
IREAD is taken in March.
ISTEP tests both language arts and math. ISTEP has 2 parts. The first is generally taken in February/March and the second is after Spring Break.

10. Math
We use a math program called Everyday Math. Learn more at Your child will have a LOGIN to sign in.
At the beginning of each Unit, we will send home a packet with a family letter and the homework for the unit. The homework is for you to work on with your child. It does NOT have to be turned in. It is just for practice. Your teacher may choose to change this expectation depending on performance.
We will send home a Study Guide during the Unit. The Study Guide DOES have to be turned in on a specified date before the test.
Your child’s math teacher will communicate with you in regards to math assignments and expectations.
Math Fact Mastery
There are math fact expectations for every child. The expectation for each quarter depends on the child’s math class. For 3rd grade, the expectation is that all children can pass a 100 problem test in 3 minutes for mixed addition and subtraction by Winter Break and multiplication before the end of the year.
Students in advanced math will have different expectation. They will be communicated to you by your math teacher.

11. Literacy
Our Literacy block will consist of whole group, small group, and independent work time. Each day will begin with a short mini-lesson with the day’s teaching point. After the mini-lesson students will be reading independently or with a partner. During this time, we will be working with students independently or in a small group.
Students will be expected to complete a reading log at home and at school. They are to accurately track the time and pages read. Reading logs will be graded every Friday. Please keep the log in your child’s take home folder everyday.

12. PBL
Most of you are familiar with PBL and how it fits into Promise Road’s educational philosophy. For those of you who are not familiar, PBL stands for Problem Based Learning. In Problem Based Learning (PBL), students go through an extended process of inquiry in response to a complex question, problem, or challenge. While allowing for some degree of student "voice and choice," rigorous projects are carefully planned, managed, and assessed to help students learn key academic content, practice 21st Century Skills (such as collaboration, communication & critical thinking), and create high-quality, authentic products & presentations.

13. RTI
At PRE, we have a 30 min block in our schedule that is used for RTI, Response to Intervention. As a team, we use this time to either enrich or support students with current skills we have already taught. During this time, no new instruction is being taught. Our students may or may not change rooms for this, it all depends on what your student needs.

14. Homework
Reading
It is expected that all students read at least 20 minutes a night, 5 nights a week. This means their reading log should be AT LEAST 100 minutes a week from Friday to Friday. The Panther Reading Challenge will require students to read at least 20 minutes a night, 7 days a week OR read 140 minutes or more per week.
There may be additional reading homework as we get closer to standardized testing.
Math
Study guides will be sent home for each unit.
The Panther Math Challenge is highly encouraged.
