1 Applications Modernization Services
The following presentation deck is the client facing sales presentation for Applications Modernization Services. This deck should take about 1 hour to deliver to a client. There are extensive notes supporting each slide, so please read and understand these notes carefully so that you can talk to the details in each slide. Applications Modernization Services Modernizing the Applications Portfolio

2 Modernization Modernization is founded on… Transforming the business
What is modernization? Modernization is a multi-year process that revitalizes IT assets to enable the enterprise to rapidly respond to changing market conditions in a highly efficient manner. Modernization is founded on… Transforming the business Implementing service oriented architectures Achieving enterprise agility Aligning applications to business processes Preserving business knowledge Reducing the cost of IT Like any corporate asset, IT requires revitalization in order for the asset to remain viable and current and not become a liability. Legacy systems, and their lack of agility, have become a barrier to change, making them a liability in today’s business world. At the same time, the evolution of technology has created the next generation of IT standards that position IT as an enabler to the agile enterprise. As such, revitalization of IT assets is becoming paramount in order for companies to respond to rapidly changing market conditions. The path to revitalization is modernization of the assets, and the goal is for IT to enable enterprise agility while preserving the business knowledge that has been built up in legacy applications through many years of IT investment.

3 Modernization Approach
Achieve the modernization goals H Increase Business Agility Reduce IT Cost Rigidity Fragmented, hard-wired IT systems and business processes have no leverage or flexibility to deal with customer and supplier variation. Agility Highly leveraged highly responsive IT systems aligned to business processes and business strategies. Leverage Here we establish the linkage between the Modernization Approach and EDS Applications Modernization Services (in the next section) by introducing the three phases of the EDS Modernization Framework (Assess, Modernize, Manage) on the path to Agility. We also tie back to the original goals of: Increasing business agility Reducing the cost of IT This slide creates the transition to the next section: EDS Applications Modernization Services. 4 EDS Applications Modernization Services
Features EDS Applications Modernization Services features end to end capabilities to define the modernization path, manage the journey, mitigate the risk to the operation, and achieve enterprise agility at a reduced cost. Assess the IT portfolio and determine the strategic value of applications Identify modernization strategies to apply to applications in the portfolio Manage the transition of modernized applications to operations Develop the business case for change Optimize the support resources for the modernized portfolio Establish a modernization program to govern the execution of application specific projects Applications Rationalization Assessment - The processes, tools and resources to assess and rationalize the applications portfolio and determine the business, functional, technical and financial value (the strategic value) of applications in the portfolio. Modernization Roadmap - The processes, tools and resources to define the path (roadmap) to the agile enterprise, by applying modernization strategies to each application. Business Case - The development of the business case (or cases) for change and the execution of a multi-year modernization program. Modernization Program Management - The processes, tools and resources to manage the modernization journey. Applications Modernization Projects - The processes, tools and resources to execute the modernization strategies defined in the roadmap for specific applications or group of applications as projects under the guidance of the modernization program. Business Transformation (Change Management) - The processes, tools and resources to manage organizational change and to transform the business operations. Applications Portfolio Optimization - The processes, tools and resources to optimize the portfolio and reduce the overall cost to manage using the EDS BestShore model. Applications Management Transition - The processes, tools and resources to transition the optimized portfolio to a steady managed agile state. EDS helps our clients: define the path, manage the journey, mitigate the risk, reduce the cost and achieve agility in their optimized applications portfolio Manage the business transformation Execute application modernization strategies

5 EDS Modernization Strategies
Elective strategies governing the modernization roadmap Re-learn: Detailed understanding of current state application baseline. Re-factor: Code analysis and restructuring to improve maintainability and performance. Re-host: Migrate to lower cost platforms without changing application features and functions. Re-interface: Establish web based service oriented new features and functionality. Re-architect: Forward engineer applications to modern service oriented architectures. Replace: Replace applications with enterprise packages or custom developed applications. EDS’ modernization strategies are elective strategies that can be applied to individual applications or groups of applications in the portfolio based on the strategic value of the application. The Modernization Roadmap defines what strategy gets applied to what applications. Re-learn is imbedded in almost all modernization activity to get a detailed understanding of application characteristics and to reduce the migration risk of subsequent modernization activities. Re-factor is a service that analyzes code structure and code performance with the goal of improving the maintainability and performance of the code. Re-host migrates applications to lower cost platforms without changing the application code base, features, functions, look or feel of the application. Re-interface establishes new web based service oriented interfaces to existing or rehosted applications. Re-architect reverse engineers applications to their baseline requirements then forward engineers those applications to new languages and new architectures based on modern open standards. Replace implements enterprise packages or develops custom applications to replace existing legacy applications. Retire decommissions applications from service. EDS, working in conjunction with the client, elects the right modernization strategy to be applied to each application in the portfolio. Retire: Decommission applications and systems from service. Applying the right strategy, to the right application, based on application strategic value.

EDS Applications Modernization Services delivers the Assess phase services and the Modernize phase services. In the Manage phase, clients then have the option to transition the revitalized applications portfolio over to EDS for optimized applications management and hosting, or EDS may transition the applications back to the client for ongoing support. EDS Manage phase services greatly reduce the capital expense requirements for hardware and training by leveraging EDS’ modern infrastructure and optimal (BestShore) resourcing. 8 Agile Applications Architecture
What is the A3 architecture? The EDS Agile Applications Architecture (A3) provides the future state architecture model for achieving true enterprise agility. “Layered” Architecture Loosely Coupled Applications Agility Reference Architectures Unified User Access Orchestrates Workflows and Processes Adaptive to Business Change The EDS A3 architecture is a service oriented architecture that creates the framework for which we modernize applications into. By using the A3 architecture, we achieve the characteristics of agile applications : “Layered” application architecture Loosely coupled applications and layers Supports agility model Supported by reference architectures for modern platforms Aligns applications to business processes Creates unified user access Adapts rapidly to changing business needs A3 and A3 consulting is an asset that EDS can bring to a client which can enhance the value of a modernization program.
