3 The Scent of A Woman Background SPOILERS
Charlie Simms, a New England prep school student, gets a temporary job taking care of Lieutenant Frank Slade (played by Al Pacino). Three other students at the school decide to play a prank on the headmaster. The headmaster question Charlie and friend who both decide to keep quiet. Slade and Charlie go on a trip with the intent of Frank committing suicide. Charlie stops him. Charlie and another student are questioned in a court-like situation. Slade defends Charlie with his passionate speech.

7 Tone and Voice Al Pacino starts off the speech very firm and angrily, pretty much ordering everyone to listen to what he has to say. After criticizing the system, He begins to say that Charlie deserves better. He sounds more empathetic towards the end, trying to get the jury to understand what he has to say.
