6 JSTOR

7 JSTOR is short for Journal Storage
Description from our Website: JSTOR includes over 1,000 leading academic journals across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences, as well as select monographs and other materials valuable for academic work. Journals are always included from volume 1, issue 1. Beginning in 2011, current issues for more than 150 journals will be available on JSTOR as part of the Current Scholarship Program.  All major disciplines—most research topics are covered here

8 JSTOR is short for Journal Storage
All full-text Nearly all academic journals Always starts with the first issue of a journal 90% of journals have an embargo, which means some of the recent content isn’t available. This could be the last 5 years, or just the last year or two. 150 journals now have the most recent issues and are updated continuously. Coverage of some journals goes back to the 1600s-- Good source for historical research especially

9 EBSCO/JSTOR

10 Basic Differences EBSCOHost JSTOR
Provides content from a wide range of sources (journals (peer-reviewed); magazines, newspapers; monographs, etc.) Provides content from a unique source (scholarly journals, mostly peer-reviewed) Allows for recent content/current issues. 90% of full-text articles are from the last 10 years. Offers archival content/back issues, including a lot of older scholarship (often still relevant) Has an indexed, standardized subject heading (subject terms, thesaurus), better advanced search Lacks a standardized subject heading, weaker advanced search options

11 Basic Similarities Both offer academic (and peer-reviewed) content
Both are searchable and browsable Both allow cross-disciplinary search In essence, both databases should be conceived of as complementary. It is often best to search in both
