1 NEW Apprenticeships and Traineeships
Apprenticeships and traineeships are a proven means of providing people with vocational skills and ensuring that industry has a continual supply of skilled tradespeople to meet its long term needs. Modern, flexible arrangements for apprenticeships & traineeships are giving apprentices, employers & trainees a greater choice of services and providers.

2 Training for Apprentices and Trainees.
The AQF standards now mean that employers and Apprentice & trainee can now choose who is to provide the theory training. TAFE was the traditional trainer, but now private providers can tender to provide the training required. Training is Competency based.

3 The Training arrangements
Traineeships generally are over 1 or 2 years whilst Apprenticeships can run over 3 to 4 years. A contract is entered into by employer and apprentice or trainee. Some special conditions apply.

4 Training arrangements
A probationary period applies to apprentices - 3 months. A Probationary Employment Application has to be lodged within 14 days. Then an Apprenticeship Agreement is signed. A Trade Training Schedule is sent to employers & is to be followed.

5 Cancellation of Apprenticeship
Mutual agreement Abandonment Unsatisfactory progress Misconduct You can Transfer to another employer Even on a temporary basis

6 Contract of Employment Duties of the worker
To obey the employers lawful and reasonable commands. To do the work to the standard of competence expected. To account to the employer for equipment etc To keep faithful service.

7 Contract of Employment Duties of the worker
To make inventions available to the employer. To disclose information to the employer. Apprentice is not to be involved in industrial disputes.
