1 VIS-Development Program 2008 - 2015
The Joint Authority of Kainuu Region has defined in the Regional Program for Kainuu in 2012 the Vehicle Information Systems (VIS) as one of the spearhead development programs that will establish the basis for the future competitiveness of the economy in Kainuu.

2 VIS-Development Program
The main goal of the VIS-Development Program is by year 2015 to establish in Kajaani an Internationally recognised centre of expertise in VIS. The VIS centre will provide to the companies in the vehicle industry with a unique environment for research, development, education and testing. It assists the local economy and companies to prosper with the VIS business.

3 Target of VIS-Development Program in Kainuu

4 Research & Development Parties:
VTT Kajaani Focused on vehicular technology, wireless solutions. Main areas are today: Wireless, reliable and high-bandwidth data-transmission in vehicular environments. UWB localisation technologies. Wireless sensor networks. Energy harvesting for sensors and appliances.

5 Research & Development Parties:
Kajaani University of Applied Sciences Focused Engineering education of Vehicle Information Systems (B.Sc.) Vehicle Information Systems is one of KUAS cutting edge competences Very good facilities for testing embedded electronics and learning environment of automotive electronics

6 Research & Development Parties:
The Kainuu Vocational College (KAO) KAO is an active operator in the Kajaani-based Vehicle Information Systems Development Programme (ATJ in Finnish). We are very active in both construction machine and vehicle sectors. More than half of the mechanics specialising in automotive electronics in Finland were trained by us.

7 Research & Development Parties:
Centre for Wireless Communications Centre for Wireless Communications, CWC, is a top research unit of the Telecommunications laboratory in the University of Oulu, with appr. 100 Research scientists and post graduates CWC Kainuu is now a unit of five Research scientists in Vuokatti, with research focus areas in wireless data transfer in Vehicle information systems, and sports- and wellbeing applications CWC Kainuu is participating in the ALMA and Tuiske projects of the Kainuu VIS-program, in cooperation with VTT and other local actors CWC Kainuu has also realized a real time wireless data transfer and measurement system in the MEWEX project, which focuses on whole body vibration measurements

8 Research & Development Parties:
University of Oulu Department of Information Processing Science, Kajaani Unit The focus of DIPS in vehicle information systems area is on usability and process research, and education Special compentence on: Mathematical analysis of transport systems In particular, stochastic processes and their application in vehicle technology Theoretical computer science Parallel computing, physics and mathematics, and their application in vehicle technology The actions of DIPS in VIS-development programme are presented at

9 Business Associates The VIS-Development Program is strongly business oriented and guided by Vehicle Industry. This is to ensure that the program will result to research, development and education that can be utilised directly in VIS business. Currently, the business associates in the directive board of the VIS-Development Program are: Ponsse Elektrobit Epec Sunit Ebsolut
