Later, when out on her bike with friends and stuck in traffic, Aneesa becomes wheezy and short of breath, despite her blue inhaler. Her neck and chest muscles are working hard, but she cannot get control of her breathing. Her friends try not to panic and manage to get her home. She is very anxious, but improves on a nebulizer during an urgent home visit by Dr Richard Lower. A week later, when visiting the practice nurse, Danielle Bovet, Aneesa says “I stopped the brown inhaler - I don’t like the idea of ‘steroids’ or gaining weight" She then asks "What is triggering the attacks? Is it the traffic? I read in my Dad's paper that someone my age died from an asthma attack. Am I going to die?” She then unwittingly illustrates the ‘biographical disruption’ of chronic illness by bursting into tears and saying, “This is not how my life should be. My friends treat me like I’m ill even if I’m OK. I don’t want medication all the time, but my asthma is affecting my studies and going out.
