Wind turbines Technical terms

INTRODUCTION About the project
The start We made a working wind turbine in Germany We also made presentation about the topic (Aspects of wind turbines) To be continued Here in Hungary we made a dictionary of wordlists from the words we used during the project

What can you find here? We made this presentation to help you understand how the technical parts work. We tried to make it more interesting with pictures, hyperlinks to Wikipedia sites of the topics and videos. We stuck to the use of Wikipedia, because you can read it in multiple languages and it is likely to be available on your own as well. (This is not the finished visualised vocabulary, this is only an example.)

Anemometer This is a device installed on the top of wind turbines to measure the strength of the wind.

Generator This is a typical generator for wind turbines, which is responsible for generating energy, using the kinetic energy deriving from the movement of the blades.

Nacelle The word refers to the casing, which holds all the parts of the turbine.

Pitch This term is used in physics. They characterise the wave of the sound by low and high parts. It is important in case of wind turbines because they produce noise that may hurt people’s health.

Rotor The rotor is connected to the generator and it changes wind to energy over a condenser.

Yaw drive The yaw drive measures the direction of the wind and alters the blades in order to face the wind.
