6 Throughout Theodore Roosevelt’s (TR’s) presidency, many of his actions showed that he believed the president should act in the interest of the public. President Theodore Roosevelt (1901 – 1909)

7 TR believed in consumer protection and pushed for the passage of the Meat Inspection Act and Pure Food and Drug Act in 1906.

8 TR was known as a “trustbuster”, breaking up trusts that he thought were bad for the U.S. economy.

9 TR supported better working conditions for workers and was one of the first presidents to support striking workers. Coal Strike of 1902
