2 The symbol of the Olympic Movement represents 5 bound rings on a white background: blue, yellow, black, green and red. According to the baron Pierre de Coubertin, rings symbolize five continents which countries participate in the Olympic Movement. The emblem is thought up by de Coubertin in 1913 and presented at the VII summer Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920

3 The first winter Paralympic games took place in 1976 in Ornskolddsvike (Sweden). Competitions for athletes with the amputated extremities and violation of sight were organized on a track and in the field. Competitions in races on sledge were for the first time shown. In the next years I increased not only the number of participants, but also quantity of sports. The Russian athletes for the first time participated in Paralympic Games as a part of USSR national team in 1988.

4 Downhill racing on sledge was carried out as demonstration performances. Athletes of all groups of disability took part in Paralympic starts. Successful carrying out the first winter Games allowed to organize the second Paralympic competitions in 1980 in the city of Geylo (Norway).

9 Cross-country For the first time cross-country skiing appeared in the program of the Paralympic Games in 1976 in Ornskoldsvike (Sweden). At the Paralympic Games men and women with different types of disability take part in competitions: spine injury, cerebral palsy, amputation, blindness or partial loss of sight. To provide fair competition and equal conditions at the distance, all participants pass classification by degree of the functionality.

10 Biathlon Athletes with the corresponding physical limited capacities use "sledge" - specially designed chair which fastens to couple of skis. Such skis are shorter usual and join a chair by means of the usual fastenings used as well in cross-country skiing. Athletes with amputation can enjoy someone's support during firing.

11 Mountain skiing Athletes with disability use the special equipment which has been completely adapted for their opportunities. For example, monoskis, a chair for skis, orthopedic means. Ski sticks help athletes to gather speed and to keep balance. In downhill racing and super - the giant of a stick are bent, in slalom — straight lines. A helmet with the rigid case protects the head of the athlete from damages.

12 Hockey During game athletes move not on the skates, and on the aluminum or steel sledge equipped with two runners, and use two sticks - on one in each hand - gear since one end and bent from another. Thus, players can make a start from ice by means of metal teeths of a stick, and the curved end they give a washer each other and shoot at the goal. Game consists of three 15-minute periods. All hockey players are obliged to put on a helmet with a mask, and also a protective collar or a bib. Players use protective linings, including shoulder straps, elbow pieces, kneecaps, and also "gaiters" - gloves. The goalkeeper has additional protective adaptations a bib and guards for feet, we send with a mask, and also a glove trap which gives the chance to catch the washer which speed can reach 100 km/h.

13 Curling Wheelchair curling is rather new sport. His debut in the official program of the winter Paralympic Games took place in 2006 in Turin. The first world wheelchair curling championship took place in Switzerland in Teams which part can be at the same time both men, and women take part in wheelchair curling competitions. The game purpose - to get the stone thrown on ice as it is possible closer to the center of the drawn target called by "house". Game consists of eight "эндов". Two teams on four persons serially let on ice on eight stones, that is on two stones each participant. The stone has to be let so that at its movement on the direction to "house" the carriage of the athlete wasn't mobile.
