3 “Our spiritual position is not down here, praying and pleading for help from Him up there: just the opposite! We do not go to Him for help, but we rest in Him as the All-sufficient One. We do not bring Him down to our level for our use; we abide in Him at His level, for His use.” Part Four: The Realization of Spiritual Growth, Chapter 51, Reckoning in Colossians 3, p 230

4 “Even when the unbeliever’s conscience is clear, this state is often attained by a combination of rationalization and good works, resulting in self-righteousness. Hence his so-called good conscience is the very element that tends to keep him from seeing his need for God’s righteousness and life… “As far as his conscience is concerned, the carnal Christian is much the same as the unbeliever. By dint [force] of self- effort to produce some good works for God, and the blind rationalization of comparing himself with supposedly weaker Christians, he is able sporadically to maintain some semblance of a good conscience. This very feeling, false as it is, tends to exaggerate his dependence upon himself.” Part Two: Foundations of Spiritual Growth, Chapter 25, Sin and Purged Conscience, pp 112, 113 “‘We often come across Christians who are bright and clever, and strong and righteous; in fact, a little too bright, and a little too clever—there seems so much of self in their strength, and their righteousness is severe and critical. They have everything to make them saints, except … crucifixion, which would mold them into a supernatural tenderness and limitless charity for others.’” Part One: Principles of Spiritual Growth, Ch 14, “Process of Discipleship”; pg 58

5 “Pastors are like all others when it comes to spiritual development, since our Father is no respecter of persons. There has to be preparation of heart by the Holy Spirit prior to any realistic apprehension of the Christ-life. The fact of the pastor’s theological training makes little or no difference in this growth realm, for even if our sound seminaries clearly taught the identification truths the Spirit rarely reveals these by formal academic means. Moreover, the student-stage is usually somewhat premature for the necessary needs and realizations to be generated in the life. “It is a lamentable fact that the majority of our sound pastors never become really interested in these positional doctrines, nor aware of their indispensable nature. They faithfully preach the gospel and general teachings for the Christian life. They present more or less ‘the whole counsel of God’—with the exception of the very truths that make all the difference in the life and service of the Christian.” Part Five: A Guide to Spiritual Growth, Ch 65, “Identification Leadership”; pg 291

6 “We are surprised to discover that few, if any, fellow-believers prove to be receptive. As a matter of fact, many become antagonistic, and some even accuse us of falling into error. There are times when we limp home not quite as sure or enthusiastic about it all as when we started...” Part Four: The Realization of Spiritual Growth, Ch 40, “Principles of Reckoning,” pp

8 The Two Natures of the Believer
We believe: That every saved person possesses two natures. That God provided for victory of the new nature over the old nature through identification with Christ in His death and the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. That all claims to the eradication of the old nature in this life are unscriptural (Romans 6:1-13, 8:12-13; Galatians 5:16-25; Ephesians 4:22-24; Colossians 3:9-10; I Peter 1:14-16).

10 Perseverance of the Saints
“Once justified and regenerated, the believer can neither totally nor finally fall away from grace, but will certainly persevere therein and attain everlasting life.” Easton’s Bible Dictionary

11 The Believer’s Two Natures
Rom 13:12,14 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light… But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. Gal 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Eph 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. Eph 4:20-24 But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Rom 8:3-8 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

12 In the Spirit vs In the Flesh Reality through Reckoning!
Rom 6:8-11 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
