Sarah Good By Danielle Nobitz English G 10/16/12

2 About Me I was born on July 11th 1653 I was hanged July 19th 1692
I was only 39 when I was hanged People thought I was older than I was, because I was so run down from being poor My father was a well-off innkeeper named John Solart

3 He took his own life, leaving my mother with all of his debt to pay off.
My eldest brothers had to help my mother pay of my fathers debt. Thankfully, by the time I was old enough, my mother had gotten remarried, and her new husband had helped pay off the rest of his debt so me and my sisters did not have to pay off my father’s doing as well.

4 Marriage/Family My first marriage was to a poor indentured servant named Daniel Poole who died in debt about seven months after we had gotten married My second marriage to William Good who was doomed from the start, because we had to pay for the debts of my first husband Daniel

5 We had to sell half of our land at first, then had to sell the rest of it out of dire necessity of money. We became homeless, and I was reduced to begging for work, food, and shelter from my neighbors.

6 The Beginning of the End
Because of being un-wealthy, I became more and more anti-social and miserable. People were starting to realize this My husband, William, worked as a laborer around Salem Village in exchange for food and lodging, but it became increasingly difficult for us to find a place to stay as my reputation for being socially unpleasant spread throughout the town. By 1692, we were regarded as a nuisance to the town, and were virtually beggars

7 My Arrest I was first arrested in On February 29, 1692 with Sarah Osborne, and Tituba The reason for my arrest was that I was accused of afflicting Abigail Williams and Betty Paris, and later many other accusers came forward to testify about injurious actions and spectral evidence against me I was also accused of mumbling curses and scolding neighbors who were unresponsive to my requests for charity

8 Unfaithful My family was unfaithful to me, even my five-year-old daughter Dorcas was frightened into testifying against me Although my husband did not call me a witch, he said that he, too, had reason to believe I was close to becoming one, protecting himself from accusation Only one person had defended me. When one girl had the tip of a knife and said that I had stabbed her with it, the young man showed that it was actually his knife, and she had found it in the garbage when he had threw it away.

9 I was pardoned to be hanged because I needed to give birth to my child that was on the way
My newborn infant died in prison with me before I was hanged My daughter Dorcas who was five at the time, had been accused of witchery and was imprisoned for seven months After that experience, Dorcas became psychologically damaged for the rest of her life.

10 The End When I stood at the gallows prepared to die I was asked once more by Rev. Nicholas Noyes, assistant minister in the Salem church, to confess and thus save my immortal soul

11 I was not going to confess. I screamed, "You're a liar
I was not going to confess. I screamed, "You're a liar! I'm no more a witch than you are a wizard! If you take my life away, God will give you blood to drink!“ Ironically, Noyes died of internal hemorrhage, bleeding profusely at the mouth. Despite the seemingly effectiveness of my curse, it likely would just further convinced the crowds of my guilt.
