Emercare Future Intelligent data driven decision making systems for emergency care Minna Pikkarainen / Heidi Similä Emercare Future

2 WHY / AIM WHY Emergency medical services = ambulance services or paramedic services providing out-of-hospital acute medical care, transport to emergency care A significant increase in the average age of the population – Older people are statistically more likely to use urgent care and emergency medical services.  Due to financial restrictions there is a strong pressure to be more and more cost-efficient. AIM: To build an intelligent data driven support for professionals (at home care, elderly homes, hospital emergency units) in the emergency care decision making

3 Use case example 80 years old woman, type II diapetes and hypertension
Anticoagulant medication Measures EKG, blood pressure etc at home Regular visits by home care Get sudden pain in her chest at home

4 Actors & steps in emergency care in this case
Regulators cv Professional associations Academia Nursing home municipalities provinces Authotities Emergency Response centre / some other new player Resque department 1. Home Care & Monitoring (healthcare professionals & individuals) Health care players /Hospital emergency unit Home care / nursing home technology providers, remote healthcare connections 2. Call for help & status evaluation (healthcare professionals & individuals) Health care payers, insurance, employers) Emercare services e.g. location, ambulance, decision making systems, video connectivity solutions Municipalities provinces 3. Consultancy & decision making (healthcare professionals & individuals) Decision making systems, Data analytics, platforms, virtual communication, vitality devices 4. Transportation / Further service (healthcare professionals & individuals) Third sector actors (individuals and communities) Urgent care service providers, transportation providers

5 Real-time information exchange – technical architecture
Measurements made at home and/or in the ambulance EKG Oxygen saturation Blood pressure Other metrics and wireless devices (locationing etc.) Video IoT Platform HealthShare Global Information analytics Decision making system Measurements made in hospitals & elderly homes etc Patient recording system Emergency care system /Home care system Transportation to hospital Home care Elderly home Social service Home hospital

6 Innovation Intelligent real time data integration and analysis for emergency decision making (for consumers, doctors, home care players) Use of connected health technologies & home measurements & wearable medical technologies in the decision making. European Urgent Care Service Platform The standardization E.g. Nordic countries utilize the NEMSIS classification and harmonized data

7 Results Clear practices and roles for emergency & home care in relevant patient journeys Demonstration& visualizations of the data driven decision making systems & communication solutions Concrete usage demonstrations of the home monitoring data in emergency decision making European level urgent care service platform

8 Countries involved Finland (country leader VTT)
The Netherlands (country leader Thales) France (country leader Institute Mines Telecom) Belgium (country leader Sirris)
