3 What will make my student succeed?

4 Necessary Work Ethic Consistent homework “Can do” Attitude
Desire to learn independently Know when to seek help Desire to tackle long or difficult problems Willingness to take risks Check answers!!!

5 Homework The completion of quality homework every day is essential in the study of mathematics!

6 Textbooks Students will receive a textbook Online resource information will be relayed by the teacher. Online textbook tutorial (Mr. Kelterborn)

7 Main Sources for Studying
Class notes Completed and corrected homework assignments Textbook lessons Quizzes and tests

8 Steps In Studying Organize all notes and make sure they are complete.
Select sample problems and complete them. Check answers and isolate errors. Study in advance and ask for help before it is too late.

9 Hints For Studying Keep up with daily assignments.
Pay attention in class. Correct work daily. Listen, ask questions, and ask for help when the process is not understood. Show all work. Make a list of mathematical vocabulary. Be familiar with necessary calculator steps.

10 Calculator Usage Calculator usage should follow the guidelines of the classroom teacher. All math students will need access to a graphing calculator. We strongly recommend the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition. Calculator use on cell phones is prohibited during assessments.

11 Technology Technology usage should follow the guidelines of the classroom teacher. All math students should have access to a personal device. We recommend an iPad but other tablets and devices are acceptable.

12 Tutoring and Extra Help
All Walton Mathematics teachers are available to help students outside of the regular class at announced times and on WEBs. Additional tutoring is also available through the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honors Society)

13 Math test days are Mondays and Thursdays!

14 Other Hints Homework calendars available to students at the beginning of each unit—can be accessed on the course Edmodo page Open House, Wednesday, 8/16/17 ParentVue to access student grades Math Team is available for students who wish to compete in the area of mathematics. See Mrs. Speer in 347

15 Sequence of Math Courses

16 Sequence of Mathematics Courses
There are several sequences of courses followed by current freshmen. All sequences meet the college prep requirements. *Note: students must have four years of math credit to graduate from high school.

17 Recent Curriculum Changes
“Old School” curriculum Integrated Georgia Performance Standards Math Curriculum (GPS) GPS “Bridge” year Common Core Standards (CC) Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE)

18 Foundations of Algebra Sequence
9th Fall: Foundations of Algebra (1 math credit) Spring: Algebra 1 (1 math credit) 10th: Geometry 93 w/ Support (1 math credit) 11th: Algebra 2 w/ Support (1 math credit) 12th: Advanced Math Decision Making or Statistical Reasoning *Support course is an academic elective

19 Algebra 1 Sequence 9th—Algebra 1/Algebra 1 Support
10th—Geometry/Geometry Support 11th—Algebra 2/ Algebra 2 Support 12th—Pre-Calculus or other 4th year option

20 What is Math Support? Extra time with the Math Teacher
Grades are “daily” grades Earns an academic elective credit ONLY No waivers accepted at this point Student can earn their way out after first semester Can waiver out of support class at the semester break

21 Honors Algebra 1 Sequence
9th—Honors Algebra 1 10th—Honors Geometry 11th—Honors Algebra 2 12th—Accelerated Pre-Calculus AB *AP Statistics can be taken after completion of Honors Geometry. *Honors courses on this track are awarded ½ extra quality point towards the GPA

22 Alternate Honors Algebra 1 Sequence
9th— Honors Algebra 1 10th—Honors Geometry AND Honors Algebra 2 11th—Accelerated Pre-Calculus AB 12th – AP Calculus AB *Geometry can also be taken online through CVA during the summer between 9th and 10th grades -A waiver will be required when taking an online course. *AP Statistics can be taken after completion of Honors Geometry *Honors courses on this track are awarded ½ extra quality point towards the GPA

23 Honors Geometry 9th— Honors Geometry 10th—Honors Algebra 2
11th—Accelerated Precalculus AB 12th—AP Calculus AB/or AP Statistics *AP Statistics can be taken after completion of Honors Geometry *Honors courses on this track are awarded ½ extra quality point towards the GPA

24 Accelerated GeoB/Alg 2 Sequence
9th – Acc GeoB/Alg 2 10th – Acc Precalculus BC 11th - AP Calculus BC 12th - Multi-Variable Calculus or Distance Calculus with Georgia Tech *AP Statistics can be taken after completion of Acc GeoB/Alg 2 *All courses on this track are awarded ½ extra quality point towards the GPA
