2 What is enterprise? In its simplest form, enterprise is the ability to turn an idea into a successful business. Enterprise: the initial idea for a business and willingness to show initiative, take risk and undertake new ventures.

5 What is enterprise? Economists refer to enterprise as one of the four factors of production. natural resources - includes space on the ground, hills, seas, oceans, air etc Land Labour Capital Enterprise Labour is the human input (workers, managers etc) into the production process Physical goods used to produce other goods and services eg machines, computers, tools, factories, roads etc. Entrepreneur who combines the other three factors land, labour and capital to set up their own business.

6 What is enterprise? The starting point for enterprise is creativity, so get your thinking hats on. This might be the invention or innovation of goods or a service, but the success of your enterprise will be determined by the application of your entrepreneurial qualities. Invention is about making new items, or finding new ways of making items Innovation involves bringing this new idea to the market, that is, turning an invention into a product customers buy. Successful entrepreneurs have a number of important qualities. There is no definitive list but each individual entrepreneur will have his own mix of qualities.

5 mins Your challenge is to come up with an idea for an innovative product using the combinations technique Without conferring, each member of the team writes down the name of an everyday manufactured item that you could buy in a shop. Fold your papers and mix them up. Pick out two of the papers at random.

5 mins Task 2 – Blue skies thinking Brainstorm ways in which the two chosen items could be combined to make a new product. You can use either the whole item, or an element of it, or something about the way it works. Write down all the ideas that the team thinks of, not rejecting anything at this stage

20 mins Now narrow your ideas down, choose one idea that you think is both interesting and innovative, but also practical and for which you think there would be a market. draw a picture of your new product, give it a name and note who you think the target market is.
