This includes regular review of Medicare proposed rules, program memorandum and transmittals, and other Medicare policy documents that may impact on the activities of the Society’s members. MARC will analyze the contents of these documents, identify the issues and assist the Society to respond to them. This may include written responses, meetings with CMS officials and follow up action as needed. B.     Monitoring the activities of key regulatory agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and other branches of the Department of Health and Human Services and federal agencies whose activities may have a bearing on the practices of Society members. MARC will identify key issues and help the Society develop and implement strategies to respond effectively to them. This monitoring will be ongoing, and will help the Society anticipate and address “hot spot” issues within the federal agencies. C.     Monitor the activities of Congress affecting the Society’s membership and develop responses to them to assure that the Society’s message is effectively presented. This will include written communications with Congress, face to face meetings in Washington and in the District of Columbia area offices, participation in hearings and other activities. D.     Organize and maintain the Governors’ network. MARC will work with the Society to establish and maintain a vigorous constituent based key contact system. E.      With the Society’s prior written consent, communicate with the Society’s membership through electronic and print media about the advocacy program and issues of interest.
