Classroom Expectations
Be respectful Be responsible Be ready for class Be reliable Be a role model
8
Supplies needed for class
A composition notebook A three ring binder divided into two sections: handouts/notes and homework A folder for quizzes and tests Plenty of lined paper Pencils- All math work must be done in pencil Ink- Marking pens for correcting Planner
9
Grading Policy Grades will be determined using a point system. All tests/ quizzes/ projects will be given a point value. The number of points received divided by the total possible points will be the numerical grade.
10
Homework Homework is an essential part of this class. It will be checked daily. An honest effort is expected. If a student can’t do a particular problem, I ask them to circle the problem so I can make sure to review it with them.
11
How can your student study for math?
Review classroom problems Use “Homework Helpers”- link on my webpage Practice skills using IXL Use links for recommended review sites Use classroom study guides and cover answers to check if the same answers are reached
12
A Typical Day in Math class may involve...
A bell-ringer activity/ problem Teacher guided instruction (both small group and whole class) Group work Independent practice Technology component

Which equation could be used to determine w, the width, in feet, of the sandbox? Joe is building a rectangular sandbox for his younger brother. The length of the sandbox is 1 foot longer than twice the width of the sandbox. The perimeter of the sandbox is 29 feet. Which equation could be used to determine w, the width, in feet, of the sandbox ? A. w + w + 2 = 29 B. w + 2w + 1 = 29 C. 2w + 2(w + 2) = 29 D. 2w + 2(2w + 1) = 29 What is the width, in feet, of the sandbox? Answers: D and 4.5

Phil and Matt made cookies for a fundraiser. Phil made 25% more cookies than Matt. The cookies sold for $0.25 each. After the sale, 20% of the cbined total of their cookies remained. Create an equation to represent the total amount of money Matt and Phil earned at the fundraiser based on the number of cookies Matt made, Explain how you determined your equation. Phil and Matt made a total of $72 selling the cookies. How many cookies did Phil make and how many cookies did Matt make? Show your work. Next year Phil ad Matt may sell the cookies for $.50 each. They plan to make the same total number of cookies, but they predict that they will only sell 70% of them given the price increase. Based on their prediction. should Phil and Matt raise the price of the cookies? Justify your answer.

Solutions A = (0.25)(0.8)(x x) {created equation from Part A} 72 = 0.25(0.8)(x x) {substituted 72 in for A, the total earned} 72 = 0.2(2.25x) {multiplied and combined like terms} 72 = 0.45x {multiplied} x = 160 {divided each side by 0.45} Matt made 160 cookies x {represents the number of cookies Phil made} = 1.25(160) {substituted 160, in for x, into 1.25x} = 200 {multiplied} Phil made 200 cookies x = number of cookies Matt made 1.25x = number of cookies Phil made {Phil made 25% more cookies than Matt} A = total money earned A = (0.25)(0.8)(x x) They sold 80% of the combined cookies made at $0.25 each.
