1 Maths Department Presentation to Y11 parents/carers Joel Amps
Head of Maths 07/03/17

2 9-1 Maths – need to know The demand is higher than on the old course at foundation and higher tier level. Everyone (nationally) is in the same position!

3 The exams There will be three 1.5 hour exams (all 80 marks)
Paper 1: Non calculator (25th May) Paper 2: Calculator (8th June) Paper 3: Calculator (13th June) Any taught content can appear on any paper. Don’t assume that questions must involve using a calculator just because they’re on the calculator paper!

4 What students need Calculators £6 (or £8 solar) Available from me
Please do not ask to buy (or borrow) one on the exam day! Please do make sure you know how to use it in advance!

5 What they should be doing
Get a revision guide and workbook - £5 from me for both Complete workbook pages weekly. Annotate any Qs/pages that need teacher input

6 What they should be doing
Completing past papers This is the most important thing of all – not just reading notes or watching videos but actually doing questions! Specification Code: 1MA1 Solve the simultaneous equations 4x + y = 10 x – 5y = 13

7 Where do we find them? Use remote access to log on from home using the citrix Twitter search ‘ampsmaths’ then click on the link to open my OneDrive NB: All past papers from the old specification 1MA0 are still useful.

8 Revision Programme Friday after school Lunchtimes 10/03/2017

9 How you can help Make sure they are organised Reassure them
Ask them to explain their answers or methods to you – you don’t necessarily have to understand the maths Check that they are doing questions weekly (if they can’t show you some, then that’s not effective revision) I will be setting problem solving Qs weekly for HW – they are essential but don’t count in the above! Test them on the formulae that they need to know

10 Thanks for your support!
