6 Benefits of using Standardised Fitness Tests?
Easily managed – allows a simple collection process ensuring data can be collected accurately with minimal effort. Specific Tests can be used for specific aspects of fitness - validity Consistent conditions set (weather/equipment etc) – Reliability Consistently using same test - Reliability Accurate – Validity Easy to read and interpret/understand Can be compared to National Average - validity Referred to and compared to previous results - validity

7 Limitations of standardised fitness test
All performers must complete test under similar conditions otherwise the results will not be valid. Weather or Equipment (footwear) can affect result. – affects reliability when comparing results. Completing a test after a hard training session or when the performer is fatigued will effect results – wont be true representation of ability – affects validity.

8 Benefits of Observation Schedule
‘General Observation Schedule’ - looks at all skills in activity. Provides strengths and weaknesses in whole performance. Time Related Observation Schedule can identify if problem with CRE or skill ‘Focussed Data Sheet’ can be used to further assess weakest skill to find specific faults. Can be kept as permanent record to compare results from previous to monitor improvement In conjunction with Pause, Zoom, Rewind features of a video, accurate and detailed information can be recorded.

9 Limitations of Observation Schedule
If completed ‘Live’, information can be missed by observer and not recorded, meaning truly valid information is not gathered. Prior knowledge of skills of activity required by observer to judge success/failure of skills completed. Human Error may occur regarding recording of results. Pressure on observer to collect as much detail as possible may lead to errors being made. Same observer should be used to ensure reliability of opinion on performance – reliable results gathered.

10 Benefits of a Questionnaire?
Can provide immediate feedback – ensure true data collected of how feeling ‘at the moment’ as opposed to filling in retrospectively (valid data) Easy and simple to complete with clear instructions – ensure valid data collected as performer will not complete incorrectly. Provides specific feedback relating to a theme (Anxiety/Emotions/etc). Questions are tailored to theme which provides Valid data Can be kept to compare to future questionnaires – helping reliability.

11 Limitations of a Questionnaire?
Must be the exact same questionnaire with exact same questions and scoring system to ensure reliability Timing of questionnaire prior to performance, etc, should be kept consistent to ensure reliability. Your personal ‘mood’ should be consistent each time complete questionnaire to help reliability as ‘mood’ could affect effort and honesty of answers. This could be same state of happiness, similar personal circumstances, etc. The questionnaire relies on complete honesty from the participant, which affects the validity of information.

12 Benefits of Self Reflection Diary
‘Self Reflection Diary’ - looks at main periods of time before/during/after game. Provides clear indication of how the performer is feeling regarding the performance at those times. Ensure true data collected of how feeling ‘at the moment’ as opposed to filling in retrospectively (valid data) Identifies both positive and negative mental factors experienced through the performance – validity as both are identified, helping with the creation of specific training programs to help improve weaknesses. Can be kept as permanent record to compare results from previous to monitor improvement - reliability Recorded as soon as possible before/after the performance so the information is as accurate as possible. – validity affected if forget things by completing long after event. It is subjective (your opinion) – valid data

13 Limitations of Self reflection diary
Honesty must be ensured to gather VALID data Takes time to complete accurately – requires motivation. Would affect reliability of results when compared if rushed. To ensure reliability of results, same diary must be used to ensure consistency of information gathered
