1 Digestive, Circulatory, and Respiratory Systems
Cellular Respiration Digestive, Circulatory, and Respiratory Systems

2 Cellular Respiration set of metabolic reactions & processes that take place in cells of organisms to convert energy from nutrients into ATP (adenosine triphosphate ), & then release waste products. Formula C6H12O O CO2 + 6H2O + ATP Glucose +Oxygen Carbon Dioxide + Water + Energy

3 Cellular Respiration & Digestion
Through the digestive system the body acquires the food it needs to fuel all cells.

4 Cellular Respiration & Digestion
Main food source needed are carbohydrates broken into glucose molecules.

5 Cellular Respiration & Digestion
The cell breaks the glucose into something smaller and sends it off to the mitochondria. There the mitochondria uses these smaller pieces with oxygen to make energy for you.

6 Cellular Respiration & Circulatory
The heart and vessels are responsible to pump and transport all nutrients to all parts of the body through tiny vessels called capillaries.

7 Cellular Respiration & Circulatory
Things like glucose, oxygen and carbon dioxide are able to enter or exit the tissue or vessel.

8 Cellular Respiration & Circulatory
The only way to get glucose (from the intestine) and oxygen (from the lung) to the cells of your toes, is through blood vessels.

9 Cellular Respiration & Circulatory
The blood vessels are essential in removing waste products too, such as carbon dioxide.

10 Cellular Respiration & Respiratory
The lungs are necessary to get oxygen into the body. In the lungs there are millions of little air sacs called alveoli that are surrounded by capillaries. Here, the blood drops off carbon dioxide and picks up oxygen.

11 Cellular Respiration & Respiratory
This oxygen will be taken directly to the cells. When the oxygen gets to the cell, the mitochondria takes it and begins the process of cellular respiration.

12 How Much Energy During this process 36%-38% glucose is released as energy to complete life’s processes. 68% is used as thermal energy to heat an organism.

14 Dietary Needs For Cells

15 Dietary Needs For Cells
Protein Essential to Diets They help rebuild & repair cells.

16 Dietary Needs For Cells
Fiber Keeps the digestive system working properly. Which is essential for cellular respiration.

17 Dietary Needs For Cells
Carbohydrates Essential for cellular respiration to convert glucose to energy. Grains are a good source of carbs.
