6 Contracting Analytical Support
FY16 – Contracts under ICPT BOA with several full service laboratories All offsite analytical support provided by BOA laboratories LWS; 3 Offsite Labs under Contract w/ Limited Onsite Lab Need For Special Case Issues (e.g. High Rad; Specialty Analyses; etc.) EPS; 3 Offsite Labs under Contract; More Usage of Onsite Lab Due To Short Analytical Hold Time Requirement Analyses Laboratory selection performed and documented on each sample request (lab justification); dependent upon analytical suite. Lab Justification Factors considered: Cost (# Samples, Analytical Suite, TAT, Deliverable Requested) Past performance (MAPEP, DOECAP Audits, QA/QC Issues w/ Data Reviews, Invoicing; Responsiveness; etc.) Other issues (e.g. Sample Volume, NRC license, Facility Safety Basis, Meeting TAT)

Environmental Sampling Activity: 1447 Samples w/ 2197 Analytical Tests consisting of… NPDES Related (Permit; Rad Monitoring; Water Quality; etc.) 1064 samples w/ 1470 analytical tests Surveillance (Food, Groundwater, Air, etc.) 472 samples w/ 717 analytical tests Carbon Fiber Test Facility (CFTF) Permit 10 samples w/ 10 analytical tests

40 Routine Special Project (SP) Sample Requests Processed: 296 Samples w/ 456 Analytical Tests consisting of… 330 - Radiological (Gross Alpha/Gross Beta; Gamma; Alpha Spec; etc.) 80 - RCRA components 46 - PCBs Sample Request Waste Streams Sampled Include: 12 - Fac/Equipment Char 7 - Used Oil 5 - Misc; solids/liquids 4 - Soil 3 - Resin/Filter Media 2 - Glovebox/Hot Cells involving High Rad Contamination 2 - Hazardous Liquids 2 - HEPAs

ORNL is committed to: Continue using DOECAP and Mixed Analyte Performance Evaluation Program (MAPEP) resources Continue supporting DOECAP on TSDF and Lab Audits 1 – Lead; Non-Rad TSDF 3 – Oak Ridge Local in WO, RC, and TR 1 – Lab in HRMM LWS Management committed to identify additional potential auditors to support DOECAP MAPEP; Mixed Analyte Performance Evaluation Program
