1 Review This is Paul’s point. You are saved? Well then, you are free from sin and free indeed. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

2 KEY POINT #1 “Dead to sin and alive to Christ” is the identity of every believer.

3 KEY POINT #2 “Identity” and “reality” are two different things for the unyielded believer

4 Yielding to Righteousness
ROMANS Yielding to Righteousness ROMANS 6:12-23

5 def. Yield - means to place yourself at the disposal of
Gotta Serve Somebody Romans 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? def. Yield - means to place yourself at the disposal of

6 KEY POINT #3 Whom you choose to yield to will be who you are obligated to obey.

7 Delivered 7:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. When one accepts Jesus Christ they must first receive the doctrine of the gospel which has been presented to them.

8 Delivered Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

9 SIDENOTE: DOCTRINE OF THE HEART
Jer. 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? We often associate the heart with being wicked, but the wickedness of the heart is measured by it’s yieldedness to God

10 Salvation & Sanctification is Obedience of the Heart
When we hear the message, the one thing that God wants from us is to receive it with obedience of heart. In the case of the gospel, “obedience of heart” is the humility to repent and follow.

11 Yielding: Before & After
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. 19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

12 KEY POINT #4 If you are a “Servant of Righteousness” then it isn’t in your personage to be in bondage to your sinful life.

13 The Fruit of Serving Sin
20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. KEY QUESTION: What has yielding to sin ever gained you but death? Gal 6:7-8

14 The Fruit of Serving God
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. KEY QUESTION: What has yielding to God ever gained you but freedom, holiness and everlasting life?

15 The Fruit of Serving God
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
