2 Who We Are Illini Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) is the primary provider of non-transport EMS care and training to students, staff, and faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. IEMS is one of over 250 member agencies of the National Collegiate EMS Foundation

3 Who We Are Founded in 1979 by students
Operated as a Registered Student Organization (RSO) through 7/1/2016. Now operates as a program through the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute. BLS non-transport EMS agency ~200 active members per year (CPR, EMR, and EMTs) Responded to approximately 350 calls at 200 events at 10 different venues across campus in the past year Taught 652 CPR students and 70 EMT students in the past year Justin

5 Operations Work events at many different venues across campus
Teams consist of 1 Lead EMT and 2 EMS Aides under the supervision of a Weekly or Football Supervisor Our September events are already posted on iBoards! Get your certifications in soon so you can volunteer at the first football game (9/2) Jen

7 Responsibilities EMS Aides Fill out paperwork while on scene

8 Responsibilities EMTs Licensed Emergency Medical Care Providers
Lead team in treatment of any patients at event, or within a specific location at an event Conduct assessments of patients as necessary and transfer care to higher level provider if applicable Follow Region VI protocols Medications Jen

9 Membership Requirements – EMS Aide/EMR
Must be a UIUC student, staff or faculty member Must volunteer at least 6 hours per semester Must attend at least 1 non-operational event per semester (e.g., practical, continuing education session, etc.) Must maintain CPR certification Must be background checked Justin

10 Membership Requirements – Lead EMT
Must be a UIUC student, staff or faculty member Must volunteer at least 22 hours in the fall and 16 hours in the spring Must attend at least 1 non-operational event per semester (e.g., practical, continuing education session, etc.) Must maintain CPR certification Must be a licensed EMT in Illinois Must have completed ICS 100 and NIMS 700 Must pass critical skills training and Region VI protocol exam (≥ 80%) Must be background checked Justin

11 Operations – Upcoming Training
EMT Critical Skills Monday (8/28) 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM (English Building) Look over Standard Operating Guidelines and EMT Operational Guidelines (found under the Documents tab on our website) Consists of scenes and Region VI protocol exam All EMTs (even current EMTs with IEMS) must attend yearly EMT Bike Team Bring a bike and helmet ( Jerry ASAP if you need one) Meet at Gate 17, Memorial Stadium Look out for training sessions for CPR members Training Video Jess

13 Education – BLS for HCP (CPR)
Cost $25 IEMS/IFSI members (register for a profile first!) $40 UIUC affiliates $50 General public 4 hour course Sunday, 12 – 4 PM Thursday, 6 – 10 PM See our website for specific dates and times Billing Invoices will be sent by IFSI and charged to your student account (no payment at the office!) Audience: medical personnel (including IEMS members!) IEMS/IFSI members can rent CPR book from office 9 AM-6 PM Elizabeth

14 External CPR Courses Hands Only CPR (Quad Day) Hands Only CPR + AED
CPR-Layperson CPR-Rescuers First-Aid Goal: Train 5% of campus (2,180 people) in at least hands only CPR

15 Education – EMT Class 16 week course Cost: $575 (course fee) + $22 (vitals kit) Tues & Thurs lectures, 7 – 10 PM Mon & Weds Lectures, 7 – 10 PM (2nd section Spring Only) Practicals 8:00 – 1:00 AM in class (5X), one final practical on Saturday 8 AM – 4 PM Average first-time pass rate for the national exam is ~90% Illinois average: 71% National average: 70% Class has already started for this semester, but look out for applications for spring semester the last few weeks of fall semester Nick
