4. Controlled Negative Pressure(CNP)
Controlled Negative Pressure REDON Protocol
Used by the OHD Quantifit testing instrument
Uses Controlled Negative Pressure to directly measure respirator leakage.
CNP precisely measures the leak rate by determining the amount of air that leaks into the respirator during the fit test.

5. CNP – How it Works
The respirator inlets are capped with test adapters.
If an inhalation valve is present, it will be propped open.
Test subject holds his or her breath for no more than 10 seconds….actual test is only 8 seconds
At the same time, the Quantifit establishes and maintains a slight vacuum (ie...controlled negative pressure) inside the mask
Since the respirator inlets are sealed, all sources of leakage into the mask are through the face-to-facepiece seal
The volume of air drawn out during the 8 seconds is equal to the leak rate into the mask through the face-to-facepiece seal.
