1 The Gospel for the Christian: The Life of Grace and Faith
The Book of Job Job 4:7 Words of Eliphaz Remember now, who ever perished being innocent? Or where were the upright destroyed?

2 Correction: Jeremiah 32:33
And they have turned their back to Me, and not their face; though I taught them, teaching again and again, they would not listen and receive instruction.

3 Job is the First OT Book:
1. Job lived to be 210 years old, consistent with the life spans of those who lived prior to Abraham 2. Job’s wealth was measured in livestock which was also true of the patriarchs 3. Job’s daughters were heirs of his estate along with their brothers (Job 42:15). This, however, was not possible later under the Mosaic Law 4. The name Sadday is used of God 31 times in Job (only 17 times elsewhere in the OT) 5. There is no mention of Israel, the Law, priesthoods, the patriarchs. 6. The literary style and language would suggest a time prior to Abraham, so pre 2100 BC

4 Why is this Important? The Book of Job was written to Gentiles before Abraham, before the nation of Israel It is the one OT book not written to the Jews, it is written to everyone What happens in the Book of Job sets the stage for the rest of the entire Bible

5 Satan’s Second Line of Attack is Twofold:
1. First part of the attack is that God is not able to save 2. The second part of the attack is that since God is not able to save, man is under the principle of good and evil

6 Sympathize and Comfort NUD and NAC-HAM
Which cam be translated totter or weaken and repent or change the mind Their intention was then to get Job to change his mind, to see God as a God of judgment who is just waiting for the opportunity to judge and cause to suffer those who sin

7 Job 4: 7-9 This is their view of God and is promoting man’s the basic instinct
Remember now, who ever perished being innocent? Or where were the upright destroyed? According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity And those who sow trouble harvest it. By the breath of God they perish, And by the blast of His anger they come to an end.

8 Job 4:12-21 Eliphaz’ Vision but NOT of God Not God

9 Job 32:1-3 Then these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. But the anger of Elihu burned; against Job and against his three friends

10 Ten Questions asked in Job:
Job 4:17 (Two questions) Can mankind be just before God? Can a man be pure before his Maker?

11 Ten Questions asked in Job:
Job 8:3 (Two questions) Does God pervert justice Or does the Almighty pervert what is right?

12 Ten Questions asked in Job:
Job 9:2 Job is Falling for the Lie But how can a man be in the right before God?

13 Ten Questions asked in Job:
Job 14:4 Job’s Conclusion Who can make the clean out of the unclean? No one!

14 Ten Questions asked in Job:
Job 15:14 Two Questions What is man, that he should be pure, Or he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

15 Ten Questions asked in Job:
Job 25:4 Bildad’s Speech (Two Questions) How then can a man be just with God? Or how can he be clean who is born of woman?

16 In these question, arguments, accusations, Satan is saying God cannot:
Make the UB just Make the Believer clean That he can not make the clean out of the unclean That he cannot make man pure He cannot make man righteous

17 Isaiah Chapter 43 v 11 I, even I, am the LORD; And there is no savior besides Me. God says I alone will do it, I can make just, clean, pure, righteous, no one other than I can do it v 12 It is I who have declared and saved and proclaimed, And there was no strange god among you; So you are My witnesses, declares the LORD, And I am God God says he will do three things: Declare, save, proclaim

18 God will Declare, save, proclaim:
In the OT God declares that He will do it and that He will do it alone In the Gospels God keeps His word and provides salvation through His Son Jesus Christ in Acts and the Epistles, God Proclaims: And that is what we do; we proclaim that God did it and He did it alone In Revelation there is the antithesis to Satan’s accusations in Job: Jesus Christ is glorified and Satan is defeated
